I would like to say I am extremely honored to be able to serve you as the new President of the American Board of Oral Implantology/Implant dentistry. I would also like to thank Dr. Suheil Boutros for an outstanding job he did this last year as our now past president of the ABOI. It has been a privilege to serve with him these last few years as well. I would like to wish him continued success as he steps into the past President role. Today is an exciting day for Implant Dentistry. I would like to congratulate and welcome the newest members of our organization as they received their certification as a Diplomate in the American Board of Oral Implantology and Implant Dentistry at our last AAID meeting in Las Vegas, NV.
The American Board of Implant Dentistry/ Implant Dentistry has been around since 1969. Our mission is to certify doctors at the highest standards of competency in diagnosis, surgery, and prosthetic treatment in the specialty of Implant Dentistry and ensure their current knowledge and skills for the safety of the public.
My deepest thanks to the past presidents as I get ready to follow in their footsteps. This is an exciting time within our specialty. Over the last 6 years on the board, I have had the opportunity to serve with great visionaries in our field. I moved up the ranks serving as a general board member, treasurer, secretary, and vice-president. I have served on the written exam committee, the oral exam prep committee, a member of the oral exam committee and a board examiner. I am honored to continue to be able to serve in all these positions and as president be able to help carry out the mission of our organization. I have seen an increase in the number of dentists and specialists doing implant dentistry. We need to continue to support all candidates in this process of becoming board certified in Implant dentistry. If you are interested in becoming a mentor, please contact either our Interim executive director, Sharon Bennett, or our Administrative Manager Jenna Tucker. I would love nothing better than to be able to shake a record number of candidates hands, at next year’s AAID National meeting, as they walk across the stage, and we bestow upon them the highest available credential in implant dentistry - ABOI diplomat status.
We’ve begun the process entering a total review of the written exam question bank. Past president Lion Berzin is heading this project. Our virtual board review course headed by past president Joe Leonetti, continues to be very popular with our potential candidates and diplomates who want to stay current in the new advancements in Implant dentistry. I highly encourage all to take it. Our next course will be in March 2024. Please visit our website aboi.org to find out more information and to register. Let’s all continue to join to support our specialty status.
Wishing everyone a very successful and productive year.
Thank you!
