Judging The Stevie Awards 2021!
For the past six years, I have been a judge in the Marketing Division for The American Business Awards, called The Stevie Awards. I judge marketing entries from Inc 100 companies to niche ad agencies, and I always learn something new or have a unique perspective on things I have done in the past.
This year was a lot different due to COVID-19. It seems like almost all 200 entries had some tie back to the lockdowns, interrupted sales, and marketing events of the past. Here are some takeaways I can share with you based on these entries:
  • 90% of the companies' normal sales process was changed, and new marketing programs had been created or revamped.
  • Events and trade shows were mostly moved to a virtual format. By doing this, many events saw higher attendance over last year.
  • Purple and Pink gradients were part of 5 company's re-brands. Might have something to do with the new purple iPhone?
  • Stock footage was used in most marketing collateral and videos
  • Cartoon drawings were used on many of the new websites.
  • Press Releases were picked up in more places than in years past.
  • Companies are turning to and partnering with more outside agencies and consultants. More entries this year were submitted together as a team.

If you ever get the chance to be a judge for an awards competition in your industry, I suggest you take some time and sign up. You will get a lot of new ideas or jog some old thoughts you had before.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me.
