Tuesday evening, September 11, we had the pleasure of hosting fourteen families who were interested in the American Heritage Girls (AHG) program for their daughters. There were several current members of the troop (and their parents) and regional AHG representatives on hand to help facilitate the event. The girls were supervised for some outside play time and then learned to make Origami bookmarks with Dora, while the parents in attendance were introduced to the program’s tenets through a power point presentation and talk. We had lots of handbooks, uniforms and information on hand for everyone to review; a couple parents even took extra materials home to share with their friends who were unable to attend, but have an interest in being a part of Troop activities this year!
From that event, our troop has eleven transfer members from existing AHG troops, and has had commitment expressed from ten families that their daughters will be joining this year. Our next meeting will be an open house and registration event for both youth and adult leadership for the program, in which we will get to know each other a bit better, and work on planning for the upcoming year. Overall, it was a great and successful evening, and I’m thankful to both our troop leadership who were on hand to help out and to Fr. Maney who attended to show his support for the program. We’re looking forward to a great year full of Faith, Service & Fun!
