Tuesday evening, September 11, we had the pleasure of hosting fourteen families who were interested in the American Heritage Girls (AHG) program for their daughters.  There were several current members of the troop (and their parents) and regional AHG representatives on hand to help facilitate the event. The girls were supervised for some outside play time and then learned to make Origami bookmarks with Dora, while the parents in attendance were introduced to the program’s tenets through a power point presentation and talk. We had lots of handbooks, uniforms and information on hand for everyone to review; a couple parents even took extra materials home to share with their friends who were unable to attend, but have an interest in being a part of Troop activities this year!

From that event, our troop has eleven transfer members from existing AHG troops, and has had commitment expressed from ten families that their daughters will be joining this year.  Our next meeting will be an open house and registration event for both youth and adult leadership for the program, in which we will get to know each other a bit better, and work on planning for the upcoming year. Overall, it was a great and successful evening, and I’m thankful to both our troop leadership who were on hand to help out and to Fr. Maney who attended to show his support for the program. We’re looking forward to a great year full of Faith, Service & Fun!

Plane Ticket for Father Santosh
There is still time to  help Father Santosh purchase a plane ticket   to see his family in India as they all grieve the loss of their unborn son. This is a  very tangible way we can support Father Santosh  in his time of grief and if you have not done so, please give generously so that we can help him buy that plane ticket.  Drop a check in the collection plate  by Sunday  and put Santosh in the memo line .
As you keep our young people in your prayers, consider participating in a new ministry we are going to begin this fall. It’s called Engage and you can read a quick description about it  here . Engage pairs adults with youth to read the Bible one on one, talk about it what you’ve read/what it means for you, and to pray together. This is a great chance to develop significant new relationships as you participate in an important new ministry for the life and health of our parish and to see first-hand the power of God’s word at work.

Trail Life USA is a Christian outdoor adventure, character and leadership program for boys and young men and will serve as a ‘brother group’ for our new AHG Troop. We are looking for men (young and old!) who’re willing to step up and fill mentoring and leadership opportunities within our new Troop. There are multiple opportunities to be a part of this exciting new youth ministry program at St. Augustine’s!

Because this program is boy-led, and boy-focused, we need you gents to pitch in to make it a success!    We are in immediate need of someone who wishes to take the role of Troop Chaplain, and serve as an assistant Troopmaster, helping Fr. Terry Gatwood, Benjamin Winkler and the rest of the board.

Please take a moment to read more about Trail Life on their website:

If you are interested in helping in any role with our Trail Life or American Heritage Girls programs, please email  Wendy Winkler  as she will serve as the St. Augustine’s contact for both organizations.
