Studies in the Civic Participation Collection explore the history and meaning of citizenship in American life. Research topics include: demographic characteristics associated with varying rates of naturalization; barriers to citizenship resulting from federal government policy; the economic impact of naturalization; and the growing threat of denaturalization. Another group of studies examine immigrant participation in the electoral process, including topics such as: voting patterns of naturalized Americans; efforts to limit voting rights in certain parts of the country, and the success of new Americans as candidates for public office. Finally, several studies look at community organizing within immigrant communities and the impact of the immigrant rights movement on American life.
