The 2023 World Pistachio Trade Report identifies major pistachio producers, importers, and exporters to detail international trade (including transshipments) and describe trends or unique circumstances. The report's statistics for most countries include calendar years 2014 to 2022. The Administrative Committee for Pistachios (ACP) also provides U.S. export trade statistics. This report is published in the fall of each year because several countries do not release their pistachio trade information until September for the previous year. |

According to the U.S. International Trade Commission, in calendar year 2022, the U.S. pistachio industry exported approximately 623.6 million in-shell equivalent pounds. It imported approximately 3.8 million pounds, some of which may have been of U.S. origin. Imports declined for two years after peaking at 5.5 million pounds in 2020. The export figure is the second record-setting year for American pistachios, with exports to China remaining high and notable increases to Europe and Turkey. |

| On November 29, 2023, the USDA Announced $300 million for the Regional Agricultural Promotion Program (RAPP): This new funding source supports eligible projects that enable exporters to break into new markets and increase market share in growing markets. With the recent news that U.S. exports are down with a projected deficit of $30.5 billion for the fiscal year, APG embraces being aggressive in promoting U.S. agriculture worldwide. |

Close to seventy percent of U.S. pistachios are exported. Consequently, trade policy and export promotion are top of mind for the APG team. Among the federal programs we rely upon is the Market Access Program (MAP), which provides cost-share assistance for export promotion activities. |

Applications for the 2024 APG LeadOn Program will be accepted until March 1, 2024. We encourage APG members to engage in this year-long education and training program. Throughout the program, we cover a variety of topics such as pistachio production, water, food safety, nutrition, leadership, and the legislative and regulatory activities of APG. Participants will receive a firsthand look into how the committees and board operate. |
