Thank you to everyone that participated in this year's annual conference PAC Golf Tournament and Breakfast. These are crucial events. Each dollar raised goes to the PAC which allows APG to contribute to candidates and elected officials that care about the Pistachio Industry. |

APG traveled to Washington DC in February. Our team hit the ground running. It was important to be the first at the table with the new administration and new Congress. Our board members were fantastic. Having a grower in the room with a member of Congress has an impact when they share their personal stories and daily challenges. On behalf of APG we would like to give a special thanks to Chairman of the Board Rich Kreps, and Board Members Jamie Bledsoe and William Bourdeau for making the trip. |

Trade and the Farm Bill were, and continue to be, top priorities. APG had 21 meetings in three days. |

Congressional Members Zoe Lofgren (CA-18) and Jimmy Panetta (CA-19) reintroduced the bipartisan Fair Access to Agriculture Disaster Programs Act, aimed at removing barriers to agriculture disaster assistance for producers. This bill would provide farmers, ranchers, and other agriculture producers with improved access to federal disaster assistance following natural disasters, ensuring that basic safety net programs are available when they are needed most. The Fair Access to Agriculture Disaster Programs Act would address outdated adjusted gross income (AGI) limitations that prevent many full-time farmers from accessing crucial USDA disaster programs. These limitations have not kept pace with inflation, and specialty crop producers, particularly those affected by disasters like flooding in California, have faced significant barriers to receiving aid. |

SB 222 would create a new way for individuals and lawyers to sue California's energy companies for damage caused by disasters like fires, floods, hurricanes and earthquakes. It is full of vague terms and standards, is retroactive – reaching back to 1965, and does not require any evidence that the companies’ actions caused the damages. SB 222 blatantly violates the U.S. Constitution on multiple levels.
Specifically, SB 222 would, by 2026, increase:
- the price per gallon of gas to $7.89 per gallon, a 63% hike;
- the average household's costs by $6,200 per year; and
- electricity rates by 31%.
In addition to huge new costs for California consumers, the bill would harm the
state's economy, with nearly 300,000 jobs lost each year, reducing wages and
state tax revenues. |
