Greetings!

The elections in Virginia made national news as a partisan battle. I see it differently. I see it as American values verses un-American values.

On Thursday we learned in the Patriot Academy Citizenship Class that there are 4 basic pillars of American values outlined in the L.I.F.T principle.

  • Limited government. Our US Constitution restricts the powers of government. The only power the government has comes from “We the People”.

  • Individual Liberty. We are a sovereign people with unalienable rights given to us by God. It’s the government’s job to protect those rights. We believe all men are created equal. That’s equal opportunity, not equal outcomes.

  • Free Markets. American was founded on self determination. We have the right to own property. This includes intellectual property. Free commerce creates opportunity for all.

  • Traditional values. Our founding fathers designed our constitution on Judeo/ Christian principles. With freedom of religion, we have the right to raise and teach our children time tested principles without government interference.

One of the things that differentiated the Virginia gubernatorial candidates, Terry McAuliffe and Glenn Youngkin, was parents having a role in what their children are taught in district schools. Parents had enough of the race dividing Critical Race Theory, transgender student facilities and new age “wokeness” that is dominating the classrooms. Youngkin ran on parental rights and in the end, won handedly.

In the race for Virginia Lieutenant Governor the people elected a woman who was born in Jamaica. She isn’t afraid of sharing her faith. Winsome Sears in a press conference quoted Psalm 133 that immortalizes what she stands for: “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity”!

In the race for Virginia Attorney General, the people elected the son of Cuban refugees, Jason Miyares. His family escaped the communist Castro regime and risked their lives to attain American freedom. Jason Miyares believes in American values.

In Tucson, we had only a 26% turn out where the few who voters clearly elected their favorites. Congratulations to all the candidates who fought so hard to win. Though I’m personally disappointed with the initiative process that has given us burdensome regulation and $15 per hour minimum wage, the voters have spoken.

Though the democratic process can be messy at times, it’s the best possible method for maintaining our republic - on to 2022.
