A recent survey by Fidelity Investments found that two-thirds of American workers are not looking forward to retirement, but to working for pleasure.[1] They want to enter their retirement with more intention and direction. They want to phase into retirement, not quit cold turkey.
The study also found that even younger generations are thinking ahead to a different kind of retirement. A surprising 60% of Gen Z and 58% of millennials plan to extend their careers or start their own businesses when they reach retirement age.
It makes sense. Today’s retirement-aged worker is healthier and more active, and some are looking to start their step-down retirement much sooner – 85% in the Fidelity survey want to retire by 61or 62 years old.
