FAST President, Alana Newhouse, conducted her first monthly fireside chat on Sunday, October 2nd. She was joined by members of the community.

Alana took time to give the group some insight into her life from her son’s diagnosis to how she stepped into this role at FAST. She helped clarify how her role will support the mission of FAST and her plans to continue to professionalize the organization for continued success in the non-profit space.

One of the unique aspects of FAST is that we are a foundation with international reach. FAST Global consists of representative country-specific FAST affiliate organizations led by dynamic teams of Angelman syndrome (AS) parents working collaboratively to accelerate the FAST mission: to cure Angelman syndrome.

Our FAST Global leaders, coordinated by USA board member Amelia Beatty, are in Australia, the UK, Canada, Italy, France, Spain, and Latin America. Each FAST leader brings talent and expertise to the global team in order to drive the mission forward worldwide. We emphasize collaboration and sharing across pharmaceuticals, research institutions, and other AS and non-AS organizations around the world. FAST Global is dedicated to bringing treatments to individuals in as many regions of the world as quickly as possible. 

Each week leading up to the 2022 Science Summit, we will be highlighting a FAST Global affiliate in this newsletter in order for the community to recognize the exciting projects they are working on and how they support the FAST mission. Stay tuned!

“On September 24th, we hosted our first ‘Cooking for Angels’ cook-off fundraiser. While this is our first cook-off, this isn’t our first event. Our community has come together the last 4 years to raise money for FAST! Our daughter, Lilly, was diagnosed with Angelman Syndrome at 1 year old. After attending our first science summit and gala in 2018, we were inspired to do our part in raising money to find a cure!

We are so proud to say that the cook-off was a huge success. We had a record-breaking year!”

The 2022 CAN Fundraising Campaign closes on Friday, October 15th. Be sure to get in any last donations to your CAN Fundraising page for your chance to be entered into the fundraising prizes!

If you’re a winner of a 2022 FAST Gala scholarship or the Ticket Giveaway, the deadline to accept your reward is Wednesday, October 5th, 2022 at 11:59pm CST.

If you do not accept, your award will be forfeited.
