THINGS TO DO

STAY A WHILE

TO THOSE WHO SEEK THE NIGHT,

SOME PLACES SAVE THEIR BEST FOR AFTER DARK.

Most travelers leave just as this world is waking up. This one is for the others. The owl prowlers standing still in the darkening Arboretum woods. The stargazers staring up at skies that have no business being this dark. The ones pressing their ear to the cold stone walls of a fort that has been standing since the Revolution, listening for something that cannot quite be explained.

See you under the moon.

THE NOCTURNAL SOCIETY

Schoharie County after dark is a different place entirely. The skies are genuinely dark here, the kind of dark that makes you stop and look up. Owl prowls into the Landis Arboretum woods, stargazing with nothing in the way, and haunted hikes through ground that has plenty of stories to tell after dark. Put the phone away and stay a little longer.

HAUNTED HISTORY TRAIL

For those who like their history with a little extra darkness, the Haunted History Trail connects ghost hunts, guided tours, and haunted inns across New York State. Schoharie County has more than a few stops worth making and the stories behind them are exactly as good as they sound.

LET'S DO STUFF

WEEKENDS IN OCTOBER

Something is waiting in the dark fields of Schoharie. Night Terrors Haunted Farm draws visitors from across the Capital Region and beyond for a world-class outdoor haunt that gets under your skin.

10/10

Vendors, food trucks, scarecrows, and a parade through peak fall foliage. The 34th Annual Timothy Murphy Fall Festival fills Middleburgh with everything the season is made for.

10/16 & 10/17

Ghost stories, shadowy hallways, and the kind of history that gets harder to explain after dark. The Old Stone Fort's Haunted History Tour leads visitors through one of Schoharie County's most storied sites on a night you will not forget. Reservations are required and space is limited.

10/24

Mayhem in Middleburgh brings a haunted house, wicked wares, ghoulish food, tarot readings, and a DJ to downtown Middleburgh for one very good reason to be scared this season.

10/30

As the warm season winds down, the owls of Landis Arboretum take center stage. An evening walk through the woods listening for the nocturnal birds of prey that call it home. Bundle up, bring your ears, and let the Arboretum do the rest.

BEFORE YOU GO

Every season in Schoharie County has its own reason to show up. Fall just happens to be the loudest about it right now. The foliage, the festivals, the farm stands at their peak, and evenings that feel like the season is showing off. Whenever the calendar lines up, the valley will be ready.
