September 2, 2022 | Friday Five #123

Labor Day

In recognition of Labor Day, SCS is closing at 2 PM today and will resume operations on Tuesday, September 6. Did you know that Labor Day became a national holiday in 1894 as one of the achievements of the labor movement of the late 1800s. The first Labor Day parade actually happened on September 5, 1882, in New York, New York. An estimated 10,000 people took unpaid time off from work to march to City Hall. Here's some good news: the Emily Post Institute, which specializes in etiquette issues says, “the old rule about only wearing white between Memorial Day and Labor Day is a thing of the past.”

So wear white all year long! And start your long weekend off with the Friday Five. We've got a look back at last week's paper, arts programs to look forward to, and a little Labor Day fun.

Have a great extra long weekend!

Are you ever reading something online, see a term or person you're interested in, and want to learn more through a google search? To do it quickly in most browsers (Chrome, Firefox, and Safari), highlight and right-click on the term in your browser and choose the "Search Google" option in the menu. Your browser will open a new tab and show you search results on the topic. Keep your eyes peeled for tech skill workshops from Senior Planet (AARP) at the link on the left!
