In recognition of Labor Day, SCS is closing at 2 PM today and will resume operations on Tuesday, September 6. Did you know that Labor Day became a national holiday in 1894 as one of the achievements of the labor movement of the late 1800s. The first Labor Day parade actually happened on September 5, 1882, in New York, New York. An estimated 10,000 people took unpaid time off from work to march to City Hall. Here's some good news: the Emily Post Institute, which specializes in etiquette issues says, “the old rule about only wearing white between Memorial Day and Labor Day is a thing of the past.”
So wear white all year long! And start your long weekend off with the Friday Five. We've got a look back at last week's paper, arts programs to look forward to, and a little Labor Day fun.
Have a great extra long weekend!
