An Exciting Next Step in Cambodia

“Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever.” — Psalm 107:1

For nearly two years, we have been working with partners in Cambodia to help break the cycle of poverty by equipping, empowering, and enriching the lives of children and families.

One of these initiatives is the Informal Education Program, an after-school learning program for children aged 4–18 who are at risk of falling behind in school. It provides a safe and supportive environment where students can continue learning while also being cared for and encouraged in their development.

Students attend the program before and after their regular school day, often spending 2–3 hours at the centre. In Cambodia, many schools operate in shifts due to overcrowding and a lack of teachers, meaning children only attend part of the day and often do not receive the support they need.

This program helps fill those gaps.

Students receive focused instruction in English, Khmer, math, and computer literacy, along with access to books, learning materials, and computers. They are supported by dedicated teachers who help reinforce what they are learning in school while building confidence and foundational skills.

Beyond academics, the centre provides a safe space for children from under-privileged communities, where education not only helps break the cycle of poverty but also plays an important role in protecting children from risks such as child labour and early marriage. Through ongoing outreach, the program also engages families and supports the wider community.

As we’ve continued to walk alongside it, we’ve seen a meaningful opportunity to strengthen and expand what is already happening.

Today, we wanted to share an exciting update - that we are transitioning this program to a group sponsorship model!

This shift allows us to move from general support to something more intentional and sustainable. Through group sponsorship, a community of people comes together to support an entire classroom of children. It creates a more stable foundation for the centre and allows all students to benefit from a consistent level of care and support.

In Cambodia, where financial barriers often prevent children from accessing or staying in school, this kind of approach makes a meaningful difference.

We’re excited about what this means for the future of this program and for the children who are part of it.
