November 4, 2023
Greetings!
Connection. Flow. Surrender. Compassion. These were a few words shared by attendees following last Saturday's Staged Reading and Moonwalk in honor of the 15th Anniversary of the Giacomini Wetlands Project. It was a beautiful day focused on restoration and healing.
The morning began with a walk through the wetlands to experience the birds who call the area home, followed by science talks on the power of restoration. As the sun set, we ended our day with a powerful evening performance that touched on themes of climate justice, colonization, and slavery. Each event of the day was an expression of the hope and healing taking place on the land since the final levees were breached in October 2008 to restore the Giacomini Wetlands. The full day felt like a balm, including the appearance of the full moon and Jupiter to conclude the day.

For the casual visitor who strolls through Point Reyes Station and looks out over the Giacomini Wetlands, it is difficult to imagine this was a dairy pasture just 15 years ago. The project restored 613 acres of wetland habitat and 12% of the outer coastal wetlands in Northern California. The partnership between PRNSA, the NPS, and the community was critical to make this project a success.
Partners in Storytelling
Fast forward to 2023, and we celebrated the 15th year of this restoration project with new partners. The Staged Reading of Mesa Refuge 2023 resident AriDy Nox’s ‘The Wetlands’ was partially underwritten by the National Park Foundation as part of PRNSA and the park’s collective focus on welcoming new visitors/communities to the park and sharing new stories.

It truly takes a village, and we send a big thanks to everyone—the amazing people, sponsors, and organizations—who made the day a success.
Warm Wishes,
Heather Clapp
Director of Community Engagement & Philanthropy
P.S. Looking for a way to remember the day? Anniversary t-shirts are available beginning next week at our Bear Valley Park Store.
