An Idea For Quilt Labels!
Greetings!
Some Ideas

There are almost as many ideas of what should be on a quilt label as there are quilters! We had one lady who just wanted lines upon which to write, the washing instructions, and a Bible references in Latin. The washing instructions were added since these were quilts provided gratis, and the recipient most likely would not know how to care for quilts during washing.
On the other hand, Ruth used to crank out so many quilts that she only had time to design, publish, piece, quilt, and bind - no label.

Then we ran into a problem when we did a "Standing Trunk Show" where her quilts were hung for a long period of time. We quickly put together labels that basically said, "the name of the quilt such as 'Striated Star', Designed by Ruth Grihalva, Pieced by Ruth Grihalva, Quilted by Ruth Grihalva at Forever In Stitches, the year, and the name of the stitching pattern(s) used." A sample in Word is the image below of 6 labels printed at once.
That's a lot of information! But, missing is the intended recipient, and occasion. How do you put that much information on a label? The answer is similar to yesterdays email on "An Idea For Memory Quilts".

As you can see, above, we create our labels in Microsoft Word, with a little help from Adobe, as needed. Word gives us the platform to combine words and pictures. These pictures can be representative, such as the flag shown below.
We have also created labels with the picture of the finished quilt on it. That was a nice touch for charity quilts.
Most often the picture is of a decorative frame to encircle the words and set them apart from the quilt to which the label is attached. This can also be similarly accomplished with the use of borders in Word.
We hope that this has sparked some ideas for your labels.
