Dear Marian Catholic Families, 

This summer, Mr. Peter J. Sanfilippo IV informed the Board of Directors and the Office of Catholic Education of his decision to step down as Athletic Director, a position he has held for the past five years. We are grateful for his many years of service and dedication to our community; and extend our best wishes as he begins the next chapter of his professional journey.

Over the past several weeks, we have conducted a comprehensive search for the next Athletic Director of Marian Catholic High School. Our vision for this role was clear: to find an individual who truly embodies the mission of Marian Catholic. While that may sound simple, it is no small task. 

The mission of Marian Catholic has always been to develop students spiritually, morally, academically, and socially — by integrating the teachings of Jesus Christ with a value-centered curriculum. This mission is not confined to the classroom; it extends to the playing fields, the court, the track, the pool, and the gym. As such, the role of Athletic Director is critical in helping to sustain and grow a program that develops student-athletes who witness to the Gospel message while honing their God-given talents. 

Throughout the process, we were blessed to meet a diverse group of highly qualified candidates. Among them, one individual stood out — someone already well known to our Marian community. This candidate brought a vision of dynamic, servant leadership, a deep commitment to Marian Catholic’s proud athletic tradition, and the innovative spirit to elevate our programs to new heights. 

It is my honor and privilege to announce that Mr. Billy O’Gurek Jr. will serve as the next Athletic Director at Marian Catholic High School. Coach O’Gurek is a proud 2001 graduate of Marian Catholic and a four-year member of the Colts Football Team. He was a key player on both the District Championship Football and Baseball Teams during his time here. Coach O’Gurek is a 2005 graduate of King’s College and has been employed by the Pennsylvania Department of the Auditor General since 2006. He has been a football coach for the past nine years and is entering his second year as the head football coach of the Marian Colts. Coach O’Gurek has also faithfully served as the treasurer for the Blue and Gold Club since 2017. 

Please join me in congratulating Coach O’Gurek as he begins this new chapter. With his leadership, I am confident that we will not only continue the great tradition of Marian Catholic Athletics, but also build upon it in exciting and transformative ways.
