Dear Beacon College community,

I am writing to share an important update about the future of Beacon College. President George J. Hagerty has informed the Board of Trustees of his intention to retire at the conclusion of the 2026–27 academic year. By announcing his plans 18 months in advance, President Hagerty has ensured that the Board has the time needed to conduct a thoughtful and comprehensive search for the college’s next president.

Please find below President Hagerty’s announcement:

This moment offers an opportunity to reflect on the extraordinary progress Beacon has made under President Hagerty’s leadership. Over the past 12 years, Beacon has grown in size, strength, and national prominence. Enrollment has increased significantly, student outcomes have reached levels that far exceed national benchmarks for learners with learning differences, and the college has earned recognition from U.S. News & World Report, Forbes, Peterson’s, and the United Nations for its innovative and inclusive model.

President Hagerty’s vision has shaped every dimension of the Beacon experience. He expanded academic and residential facilities, launched study abroad programs in Tuscany and Tokyo, strengthened career pathways through partnerships with major employers, and helped cultivate a campus culture grounded in purpose, belonging, and high expectations. His leadership has positioned Beacon as a global model for neurodiversity education and as a community where students are supported holistically — academically, socially, and personally.

We are incredibly fortunate that Beacon College is strong, stable, and well prepared for this transition. President Hagerty will continue to lead the institution through the end of his term, ensuring continuity and momentum. The Board of Trustees will soon share details about the presidential search process, which will be inclusive, transparent, and aligned with the college’s long-term strategic goals.

In the months ahead, there will be opportunities to celebrate President Hagerty’s service and to honor the legacy he leaves behind. We are deeply grateful for the trust, partnership, and support that you — our families, donors, alumni, community members, and friends —have shown throughout this remarkable era of growth.

Beacon’s mission remains unchanged. Our commitment to empowering students who learn differently to achieve the abundant life with productive independence and meaningful work continues to guide every decision we make. With the strong foundation built during the Hagerty presidency, we look to the future with confidence and optimism.

Thank you for being part of the Beacon community and for supporting the students and mission that define us.
