Several weeks ago, I shared data comparing the performance on standardized tests of OLMCA students to the National averages, the Archdiocese as a whole, and other nearby Catholic schools.

I recently turned my attention to the 20 closest Chicago Public Schools. "Close" is defined "as the crow flies" so these are not driving distances. All of these CPS schools fall within a 2 mile radius of OLMCA. Several of the CPS schools such as Nettelhorst, Lincoln, Hawthorne, Blaine, Disney, and LaSalle have strong reputations.

The tables below show that OLMCA outperforms 19.5 of the 20 schools!

Why 19.5?
Lincoln scores one point higher than us in reading, while we outperform Lincoln in math. We will call that one a split decision between two academic heavyweights.

Too often area residents assume that schools such as Hawthorne and Lincoln are the top academic schools in Lakeview and Lincoln Park. While they are indeed excellent schools, I believe a strong case can be made that OLMCA is the TOP Performing academic school in the area.

Some clarification is needed for the information presented below:

For Chicago Public Schools, the score references the published PARCC scores for each school. The information provided by ISBE summarizes the total percentage of the school's tested population (grades 3-8) that scored above the "Meets Grade-Level Expectations" mark on the PARCC test.

For OLMCA the score represents the total percentage of the school's tested population that scored above the "Meets and Exceeds" mark on the ASPIRE test.

The results are from the 2017-18 school year as the CPS 2018-19 scores have not yet been released.

Sincerely,
