We are proud to announce that after 43 years of dedicated efforts, we have succeeded in achieving the goals set forth by the founders of the Woody Guthrie Foundation. What a momentous achievement! Therefore, we are dissolving the Foundation and will not be asking for (nor may we accept) any further financial support. In times like these, where so many need so much, we feel it is only right that we close our doors in the hopes that you redirect your support to others in need. In the 43 years since its founding in 1972, the Woody Guthrie Foundation’s two major goals included: To provide funds for research, support caregivers, and find a cure for Huntington’s disease. The Huntington’s Disease Society of America (HDSA), founded by Woody's wife, Marjorie Guthrie in 1972, is a world renowned, well established, thriving organization providing help to thousands of families, as well as advocating for better healthcare legislation. To create a library and research center to house and make available Woody Guthrie’s creative legacy. For over 20 years, the Woody Guthrie Foundation & Archives was open for free one-on-one research at our New York City offices. Under the direction of Nora Guthrie, Harold Leventhal, and Head Archivist Jorge Arevalo Mateus, working with our dedicated archivists Rachel Crane, Amy Danielian, Felicia Katz Harris, Hillel Arnold, and Tiffany Loiselle Colannino, we were able to keep our doors open to the public. So much wonderful and necessary new research and publications resulted from your support. In 2013, under the guidance of Nora Guthrie and the GRAMMY Foundation, The Woody Guthrie Center opened in Tulsa, Oklahoma. This state-of-the-art center now houses the Woody Guthrie Archive, features a permanent exhibit on Woody’s life & legacy, a temporary gallery for contemporary exhibitions, and a 60 seat theater for film screening and educational programs. We thank all of you for your years of support which have made it possible to reach these goals! GOING FORWARD NORA GUTHRIE and the team at Woody Guthrie Publications, Inc. will continue to represent and administer Woody Guthrie's estate and creative legacy with: Public and Educational Programs
We will continue to support these two non-profit organizations which further the work begun by Marjorie Guthrie and the Woody Guthrie Foundation. We hope you'll join us! The Huntington's Disease Society of America The Woody Guthrie Center Thank you again for all your years of support. And on to the next chapter of All Things Woody! Sincerely, Nora Guthrie |
