Dear TBC Family Member:
As discussed, approved and promised at our Annual Congregational Meeting in May, we are delighted to provide this progress report on the Future of TBC Plan. It includes our plans for attracting new members, and conducting a significant fundraising campaign which will enable us to add resources and repair and upgrade our Religious School wing.
New Member Update
We have planned, scheduled and heavily publicized two “Meet and Greet” events to attract families with young children. The first is this Sunday, July 30 from 12 to 2 pm. So far, we have 7 prospective families attending. The second is Sunday, August 13 also from 12 to 2pm and we already have an additional 3 prospective families registered to attend. These are “picnic” lunches that include ice cream, and water and lawn activities for the kids. All are welcome! It is not too late to invite other families you may know. Please contact the office or Susan Farber for additional details.
We also have other events on the calendar (such as “Burgers & Brews Shabbat” and our Annual Welcome Back Community Softball Game) that new families are welcome to attend. Communication and publicity plans are in place for reaching out into the communities we serve.
During July, we also finalized a new member brochure, and began work on a Religious School brochure. We will use these pieces to highlight all that TBC has to offer with our wider community.
Fundraising Update
Fundraising consists of two streams – a campaign to raise $1.5 - $2 million in 4 years and increasing the number of families that step up to “Fair Share” or “Mensch” dues levels. On both accounts, the initial response has been wonderful.
As of today:
-
9 families have pledged a total of $238,600 toward this year’s goal of $483,000 (49% of our goal). We did not do much active solicitation in July as we have been sending out annual registration materials and focusing on getting the new member effort started. A full calling campaign will begin August 1.
- 7 families have stepped up to be Fair Share members and 1 family has stepped up as Mensch members.
We are still very early in our annual registration process so this is a wonderful response.
Please note that membership packets are due by July 31. This is essential for those members electing to pay dues via direct debit as these have to be set up with the bank by August 5 to have the first debit begin on August 15. Please be kind and considerate to our volunteer staff by returning your registration packages ASAP. Delay requires our volunteers to spend a lot of additional time calling members to follow up on registration status.
Operational Update
There are two significant operational items that will begin once we have reached our initial financial goals:
- adding a full-time staff member to drive member engagement and development, and
- repairing the roof in the school wing.
We have started drafting the job description for the full-time position so that we will be ready when the funds are available and we have already received bids for the roof work as well.
As August begins, planning for our High Holy Days and the start of Religious School move into full swing.
We have made wonderful progress in a relatively short period of time, and there is still much more work to be done. We very much look forward to speaking to each of you in the coming weeks to hear your thoughts on how we can continue to strengthen TBC and its value to you and your family.
