Greetings!

Thank you! It’s been an incredible National Day on Writing ® . Your commitment to this professional organization is what makes days like today possible. We know the celebrations will continue well beyond October 20, but here are some highlights so far:

  • The hashtag #WhyIWrite trended on Twitter for most of the day, fueled by thousands of posts from your classrooms and campuses.
  • Authors came out in force, and we were fortunate to have several share Writer’s Stories with us.
  • A bipartisan Senate resolution was passed honoring the National Day on Writing. Yesterday we made visits to all 100 Senate offices to share information about the annual event. Several of those visits included longer meetings around issues of concern to our members, including Title II funding and reauthorization of the Higher Education Act.
While it’s ridiculous to think that the significance of writing can be fully recognized in a single day, it’s hard to ignore the volume (80,000 posts as of 7:30 p.m. ET) of so many voices speaking to its importance in their daily lives. We’re committed to keeping the volume up through advocacy, partnerships, and most important, amplifying your voice and the critical work you do. Thank you for playing a part in today’s success. We’re looking forward to all that lies ahead.

Warmly,
