An Introduction to Our New Pastoral Staff Structure
What an exciting day it was on July 1 st when 163 of us showed up for a rare summer congregational meeting to vote on extending a call to Pastor Jeremy Freye to become our new Associate Pastor for Mission and Outreach.

This brings our staff back to where we were 2 ½ years ago, before Sister Michelle and Pastor Marie followed God’s call to other congregations.

Now that we are back to 3 full time program staff, we thought it might be helpful to make it clear who is responsible for what.

Senior Pastor – Pastor Dave Jahn

The Senior Pastor is responsible for the overall mission, vision, and values of the church. As such, he prayerfully listens to the congregation and the Spirit and then helps the congregation to discern their part in God’s mission and to set and keep the vision, goals, and values of the staff and the church.

Both the Executive Pastor and the Associate Pastor for Mission and Outreach report directly to the Senior Pastor.

The Senior Pastor is responsible for leading and overseeing the worship and music ministry of both campuses alongside the Worship and Music ministry team leader.

The Senior Pastor supervises all staff musicians.

The Senior Pastor supervises the Youth Director.

The Senior Pastor oversees the directors of our two preschools.

Executive Pastor – Pastor Rick Funk

The Executive Pastor is responsible for oversight of the administrative staff.

The Executive Pastor is responsible for leading the mission redevelopment of the ministry at the Melbourne Beach campus.

The Executive Pastor is responsible for leading the ministries of faith formation, family ministry, congregational life, and pastoral care alongside the ministry team leaders of these ministries.

Associate Pastor for Mission and Outreach – Pastor Jeremy Freye

The Associate Pastor for Mission and Outreach is responsible for leading the ministry of evangelism, working with the ministry team leader in reaching out to our community with the Good News and emphasizing community engagement.

The Associate Pastor for Mission and Outreach is responsible for leading the ministry of stewardship, working with the ministry team leader in emphasizing education and empowerment for all of Advent’s members and friends in managing their time, spiritual gifts, and money in a way that glorifies God and furthers God’s kingdom in the world.

The Associate Pastor for Mission and Outreach is responsible for leading the ministry of Christian service, working with the ministry team leader in empowering Advent to bring a tangible example of God’s love to those in need outside of our congregation.

The Associate Pastor for Mission and Outreach is responsible for leading the ministry of Fellowship, working with the ministry team leader to facilitate opportunities for the members and friends of Advent to get to know each other and enjoy Christian fellowship together.

The Associate Pastor for Mission and Outreach is responsible for leading Advent in the area of internal and external communications.

Along with their specialized leadership responsibilities, all three of our Pastors will be ministers of Word and Sacrament among us, preaching, leading worship services, and teaching at both campuses.

With our pastoral staff team now up to full-strength, we are incredibly excited about what God has in store for all of us at Advent.

This new team and structure will be a great help in empowering us to be even more effective as we seek to be followers of Jesus Christ for the sake of the world.

It is my great joy to be serving with you!

"We are followers of Jesus Christ for the sake of the world."
