Joining us for lunch will be Hilary Otey (she/her), Co-founder of Queermunity Collaborative,
Mary Jean Mulherin (she/her), Steering Committee Member, and Racquel Williams, Program Coordinator (She/Her) from PFund Foundation.
Queermunity Collaborative is a new community hub space being developed for LGBTQ+ folx in Minnesota. Queermunity is planned to open in 2024 with a coffee lounge, meeting rooms, special events, and programming. They are dedicated to centering individuals who have historically been marginalized within queer spaces, including BIPOC, elders, youth, trans individuals, people with disabilities, and women. They will share a bit about them and mostly want to hear from you! They'd love to hear your ideas and share a survey with you.
BIOS:
Mary Jean was born in Manhattan on Martin Luther King Jr.'s 22nd birthday, so it's no surprise she's been an activist all her life. She "came out" in 1986 in St Paul and worked with others to make St Paul a welcoming community for LGBTQIA2+. She then worked for statewide rights and marriage equality. She served on the Board of Quatrefoil Library in the late 1980s and was Volunteer Coordinator for the Gay & Lesbian Action Council in the early '90s. She has a BA in Social Gerontology from Metro State U and has worked for numerous government and nonprofits on behalf of seniors in our community. She joined the Queermunity Advisory Committee in September 2023.
Hilary handles the day-to-day operations of Queermunity. Originally from Oklahoma, she made her way to the Twin Cities via Boston in 2010. She's collected a bit (a lot) of experience that supports her Queermunity work, like a BA in Sociology and Gender Studies, an MBA, a background in program development, fundraising, and more. Hilary lives in a busy and often chaotic home with her partner in life and co-founder, Kayla, three kids, and three dogs in St. Paul.
Racquel. Steering committee member Racquel Williams, is leading the efforts on the project planning, and is tasked with developing the process to gather input and feedback from the community to prioritize the programs/activities we'll host that will ensure true social connection/inclusion.
