Psychologists tell us festivals are more than celebrations. They are an expressive way to enjoy culture, religion, and history. Festivals hold some value, reason, and meaning to them. They each carry their own significance, reminding us of the values that bring a community together.

At St. Ladislas, we have gathered over the years for many cherished occasions, including the annual picnic. Food, music, and activities have blessed our many celebrations.

Last year, many parishioners asked if we might consider moving our celebration to September. Why? People are back from summer vacations. A small committee was formed to continue this great tradition, now renamed Lads Fest!

The Festival honors our longstanding traditions while welcoming new opportunities for fellowship. The name Lads Fest pays homage to Father Cullen's nickname for the parish while encapsulating the festive spirit that celebrates so many good things about our church.

Lads Fest Details

Lads Fest begins next Saturday, September 21, with Brats and Beer, a dinner with a German heritage theme. After all, St. Ladislas is a Saint esteemed by the Slovaks, Russians, Croatians, and Germans! Thank you to the Social Committee for hosting dinner that evening. Today is the final day to purchase a Brats and Beer ticket. If you have signed up in the Parish Office but have not yet turned in a payment, now's the time to do so to secure a seat!

On Sunday, September 22, we kick off the day right after the 11:00 a.m. liturgy. We will continue Lads Fest with free hot dogs (courtesy of the Knights of Columbus) and desserts (courtesy of the Friends of Jesus). There will be games for the children, two community bands, and booths. Don't miss visiting with Dean's Greenhouse at Lads Fest — 20% of all purchases will be donated back to the parish! Plus Manna Truck (Cleveland Magazine's Food Truck of the Year) and Dirty Buffalo Food Truck (non-alcoholic specialty drinks) will be on hand.

If those weren't reason enough, the best reasons to attend Lads Fest come from Jesus himself. He sent His Spirit’s life-giving power to a faith community that feasts on the Bread of Life and worships the Father in Spirit and in truth. That community becomes a life-giving presence for others!

I pray that Lads Fest, during this time of harvest, will inspire all of us to see the good gifts and the many fruits of our labors. Together we make a difference!
