A very effective Ministry called "Take The Next Step" is right here in Monroe.
This Ministry is housed on Sams Street and is active and committed to helping the homeless of all ages (including children, "at risk" teens as well as single young Moms and Dads). "Take The Next Step" is a caring Christian Ministry led by passionate followers of Jesus that many in our congregation know personally.
One of the many services they provide is to aid in a nationwide effort in determining the number of homeless people. It's called 'Point In Time Count'. Ultimately, the results of this 'Count' determines the amount of funding each state/county will receive to fund programs to better serve the homeless. Therefore each county is responsible for the accuracy of the count, as well as for actually performing the count for that county.
On Jan 26th, 2012, in Snohomish County 2,387 individuals in
1,410 families were counted as homeless.
Unfortunately, the count does not accurately reflect the true number of homeless in East Snohomish County, especially in the rural area we serve, as many homeless are hiding in the woods and are missed.
The next 'Point In Time Count' will take place Jan 24th 2013. "Take The Next Step" will once again be the staging point for the E.Snohomish County effort. The goal is to provide a more accurate count this year. Therefore they are going to try a new approach to reach the homeless population....they will host a FREE Community Dinner and Raffle to bring this population to them. THEY WILL SERVE A HOT MEAL and RAFFLE off gift cards and much needed goods to those in need! THIS IS WHERE WE COME IN....
Take The Next Step needs our communities help in providing for this event. Anything from a toothbrush or gift card to tents, tarps, or flashlights are needed. They have given us a list of suggested items for The Point In Time Dinner and Raffle. Here is the LIST!
