An Unforgettable Year
2020 is a year to remember. When the world turned upside down in March, the deepest despair and the utmost generosity in our community were revealed very quickly.

For LHR, it renewed our deep commitment to our mission, ensuring that people have the nutritious food they need. Around 1,000 families are receiving food from us each week through our pantry services, mobile market and community partners.

With your help, we have helped those teetering on the edge of being able to house and feed their families. We have helped those who needed assistance once, and those who have needed assistance every week. Many families have never needed help before and we have tried to make their experience as easy and dignified as possible.

We pivoted from a food donation model to a food purchasing program worthy of a large corporation. An appointment system was created for our clients to allow as much choice in grocery selection as possible while maintaining safe social distances and providing curbside grocery delivery.

The sheer magnitude of serving nearly four times as many people with close to four times as much food forced us to be innovative in operations, storage and service. Light bulb moments happen daily, and ideas for doing things better come in from all directions.
The phones have never stopped ringing, with both requests for help and offers of help.

Our incredibly generous community has stepped up to provide for our most vulnerable neighbors. There are far too many incredible stories to tell in this email, but we see each and every person who is helping and we are grateful for your partnership.

This year has shown us that when we help the community, the community is there to help us and those we serve. Volunteers have shown up every day, packing groceries, pushing carts and helping everywhere they could. Unexpected partnerships have been created to get food out the door and onto plates across the county.

As we look into 2021, we know that the road to recovery is going to be long. High levels of food insecurity tend to linger past the height of economic crises. With your help, we will keep providing nutritious food to our neighbors.

A Happy AND Healthy 2021 to you from all of us at LHR!
