The Escape Artist
The Escape Artist
by Brad Meltzer

The Escape Artist is the best new thriller I've read in a long time! I'm so glad to know it's going to be a series. The two main characters, mortician Zig, and soldier Nola Brown, are so richly developed, with flashbacks to the events that shaped them seamlessly woven with the current action. They are both flawed, yet believable and utterly complex. I can't wait to see what comes next!

Stephanie Wittels Wachs
This book is horrible and wonderful. Stephanie Wittels Wachs reflects on her life before and after The Tragedy: the day her brother Harris Wittels, comedian/co-producer of 'Parks and Recreation', dies of a heroin overdose. It is unsentimental and heartfelt. Ugly and beautiful. You will laugh and cry throughout.

Exit West
by Mohson Hamid
Saeed and Nadia meet and fall in love while their country is ravaged around them. When they obtain access to a mysterious door, they leave behind loved ones and all they know for an uncertain, but hopefully safe future. While the young couple physically escapes, the strife and stresses of becoming strangers in new lands wages war on their bond and relationship. Mohsin Hamid uses magical doors to illustrate the refugee experience in a way that seems much less fantastical than the actual horrors and hardships facing most refugees.
