Hello,

April brings a sense of renewal and momentum, and we’re excited to share what’s been happening across the STCC alumni community. As the season begins to shift, we’re reflecting on the connections that continue to grow long after graduation and the pride we share in our College. This month’s newsletter highlights campus updates, alumni achievements, and stories that celebrate the strength and spirit of STCC.

We also invite you to stay engaged in ways that make a meaningful difference. Alumni can support students and the College by serving as mentors, participating as guest speakers, sharing personal alumni stories, or giving back. When alumni share their experiences, they inspire current students, strengthen our community, and demonstrate the many paths to success that begin at STCC.

Looking ahead, we’re excited for STCC Gives on April 9, a special opportunity for alumni and friends to come together in support of today’s students and the future of the College. Your continued involvement—whether through time, talent, stories, or giving—helps ensure that STCC remains a place of opportunity for generations to come.

Warm regards,

Eunice Guidry

Alumna Spotlight

STCC alumna finds her calling in occupational therapy

– and comes home to teach

A few years ago, Shawna Sullivan ‘23 was an Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) student at Springfield Technical Community College. Today, she’s back on campus, this time as an adjunct instructor, while also working in acute rehabilitation at Baystate Noble Hospital in Westfield.

Sullivan, who graduated from the OTA program in May 2023, says returning to STCC as an educator is a full-circle moment she never imagined.

STCC graduate finds her voice in the arts,

Enaya Ogletree launched a Student Art Fair, spring 2024

Professor Sondra Peron, left, with student Enaya Ogletree

When Enaya’ Ajahnae Ogletree ‘24 first came to Springfield Technical Community College, she knew she wanted a future in the arts. What she didn’t yet know was that her time at STCC would lay the foundation for a career that would take her from a small campus gallery in Springfield to the galleries of world-renowned museums.

When her grandmother passed away, she took time away from school to regroup. She worked at a preschool but found herself drawn back to creative work. “I realized I wanted to go back to school for the arts,” she said. “STCC was affordable, close to home, and I liked the programs. I always anticipated going on further, so having that two-year start at a more affordable rate was definitely something that interested me.”

Ogletree is now on track to earn her bachelor’s degree in December from Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) in North Adams, a semester ahead of schedule. In the past year alone, she has curated exhibitions, completed a competitive internship at the Clark Art Institute, and secured a post-graduation opportunity at a contemporary sculpture park in New York.

STCC Gives Launches April 9!

This year, on April 9, STCC Gives is all about spreading joy and showing appreciation. To celebrate that, for 24 hours, STCC is telling bad puns and giving out words of affirmation. Because of our "STCC" moniker, we thought the best way of sending joy would be through giving out actual sticks of joy!

When you give, you can send a message to anyone on the STCC campus (or off) to celebrate your STCC support because the more the merrier! Just simply click the box at the end of the giving page that says "Send a popsicle STCC to." Once you click that, some new boxes will pop up to send a personal note by email to brighten someone's day. We'll do the rest by sending your email, with a virtual popsicle STCC with a joke and affirmation, and your personal message. We would have sent an actual popsicle, but who wants that STCC-y, melted mess?

So don’t be a STCC-in-the mud, and join us!
