Dear Boys & Girls Clubs of San Dieguito Friends and Families,

We hope you are well and staying safe and connected during these times. As we finish our 8th week of shutdown due to COVID-19, we want to thank you for being a friend of our Club, as well as provide an update on what the Club is doing to serve our community and share with you our absolute desire and intention to open as soon as possible.

We continue to monitor stage 2 re-opening guidelines set forth by the County of San Diego and are actively developing safe opening practices in line with the County’s framework. We will continue to communicate with local officials to determine what areas of our operations we can re-open, and under what measures as we move through stage 2 together as a community.

Our main focus over the past 8 weeks has been to continue connecting our youth and families to critical local resources, making sure they have the technology needed to continue their education, and providing virtual tutoring, virtual music lessons, activities, and workouts to keep our kids happy and healthy.

At the heart of our Club programs is our dedicated staff. In March we were forced to temporarily lay off approximately 80% of our workforce and furlough the remaining 35 staff members to reduced hours in an effort to keep our heartbeat strong. As the weeks have passed I could not be more impressed by or proud of our staff who continue to do everything they can to mentor and connect with youth.

Our recent receipt of the forgivable PPP loan allowed us to bring all of our staff back and to prepare for our youth’s future when the doors re-open. In the coming weeks we will be solidifying our contingency plans for the reopening of each of our Specialty Programs, (Aquatics/Rancho San Dieguito Swim Team, Athletics/BIG 8 Middle School Sports, Bulldogs Basketball, Carmel Valley Montessori School, Center for a Healthy Lifestyle, Summer Adventure Camps and Youth Arts Academy). We will continue to communicate as we learn about our ability to reopen in phases and recognize it will be different for each of our departments. Please be on the lookout for continued communication from your program leadership and we appreciate your patience.

Thank you for what you’re doing to support our community. Thank you for your sacrifices. To all of you we extend our heartfelt appreciation for your commitment to our mission. We look forward to emerging from this crisis stronger and more resilient than ever and look forward to serving you in person!

Sincerely,
Marineke Vandervort

We may not be together,
but we can give together .
Being together means everything right now. And though our doors are closed, our hearts are still open for the nearly 6,700 youth and teens we serve annually.

Your support today  will help us reopen those doors as soon as it is safe to do so. Please help us continue to do whatever it takes to support our kids, families and community, now and long after this crisis is over.
