August 2023 Newsletter

Dear District 2 Neighbors,

I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to take a moment to share a recap of the events that took place throughout the month of July in our community.

I attended a ribbon-cutting held for the grand opening of Flip Flop Shops. It's always a pleasure to commemorate the opening of a new business endeavor here in Oceanside. Additionally, I met with the Utilities Commission where we received updates on the many services the city oversees.

I had the opportunity to attend a meeting with Cal Cities, where we received an update on proposed State Legislation which impacts municipalities. It is encouraging to see the rising demand for more local control on various issues. The Police and Fire Commission meeting was informative, and we received updates from the Chiefs of both the Fire and Police Departments. They shared valuable insights on recruiting efforts and provided the most recent statistics on the work they do here in Oceanside.

Another significant event was the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Oceanside Navigation Center. The Navigation Center will provide much-needed services to homeless individuals and families who need assistance getting off the streets. It is a great step towards solving the complex issue of homelessness in our city. Moreover, I had the privilege of attending the Montford Point Marine Association's Remembrance and Scholarship Dinner. It was a humbling experience to honor the daily sacrifices of our men and women in the military and recognize the U.S. Marine Corps ROTC scholarship recipients.

Please note that there were no Council Meetings in July, and they will resume on August 9th.

As we move forward into August, I want to express my gratitude for your continued support and engagement. Together, we can make a difference in District 2. If you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions, please don't hesitate to reach out.

Sincerely,

Councilmember Rick Robinson
