November Recap

Council Update

We had two City Council meetings last month. Council approved both the adoption of a resolution approving new residential and commercial solid waste user rates for the 2024 Franchise Agreement and the adoption of a resolution selecting “Clean Impact Plus” as the default energy supply option for City of Oceanside electrical customers to be enrolled in the Clean Energy Alliance community choice energy supplier in 2024. Additionally, Council adopted an ordinance establishing a maximum density of 86 dwelling units per acre for mixed-use projects in the Downtown District.

Our next Council Meeting will be held on December 6th at 5:00pm.

 Getting out in the Community

I attended several different events throughout the community in the month of November, including the Fire Station 8 Community Meeting, Tri City Hospital Foundation Gala, and the Camp Pendleton Birthday Pageant Celebration. I attended two different Veterans Day events, one hosted by Cox Communications and the other hosted by VANC, both celebrations were an incredible experience to be a part of. Additionally, I had the opportunity to tour Solutions for Change, a great non-profit organization dedicated to solving family homelessness. Lastly, I was fortunate to attend the 10 Year Anniversary of Pro Kids, First Tee, an amazing youth program at Oceanside Municipal Golf Course which I discuss further below.

What's new in District 2?

Visit the link below to watch the full episode or check out previous episodes you may have missed. This is a podcast-like show where I will spend each episode explaining how different parts of the city operate. I plan to interview different guests who serve in various capacities around the city. The goal of this project is to give the viewer a better understanding of how things get done in our city.

A recurring section of this newsletter will be dedicated to highlighting local businesses here in Oceanside which we encourage you to support. For the December edition of this newsletter, I would like to recognize Pro Kids, First Tee - San Diego. The mission of Pro Kids, First Tee is to challenge underserved youth to excel in life by promoting character development, life skills, and values through education and the game of golf. Through a set of programs that combine sport, study, and service, they provide youth grades 2-12 with access to opportunities that set them on a path to success in adulthood. Check out their website for more information.

Community Issues

I receive many calls and emails regarding various issues our residents in Oceanside face every day. I take pride in responding to these issues as fast as I can, whether it be providing information to residents, making city staff aware of things that need attention, or bringing items forward to the City Council for consideration. In this section I will share updates on issues frequently raised by you, the residents.

1) North River Farms Project - Traffic Impacts to Begin. Construction on the North

River Farms site began in early 2023. Grading activities require equipment to cross

North River Road at regular intervals from 9am – 4pm, Monday - Saturday. These

crossings are scheduled to start the week of December 11 and are anticipated to last

approximately 10 weeks (weather permitting). The speed limit will be reduced to 35

miles per hour through the construction zone. Construction/installation of additional

circulation improvements in the project area will begin in the coming months.
