July 2023 Newsletter

Dear District 2 Neighbors,

I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to take a moment to share a recap of the exciting events that took place throughout the month of June in our community.

I had the pleasure of attending the Veterans Association of North County's Car Show Fundraiser, where we came together to support our veterans. It was a fantastic event that showcased the incredible spirit of our community. We also celebrated the reopening of the gymnasium at the Boys and Girls Club with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The newly renovated facility will undoubtedly provide a safe and nurturing space for our youth to thrive. Another noteworthy occasion was the Oceanside Community Foundation's Annual Grant Awards Celebration. This event honored six local nonprofits and their outstanding contributions to our city. Additionally, Visit Oceanside held their Annual Tourism Summit, which highlighted the importance of our city as a vibrant tourist destination.

Furthermore, I had the privilege of attending the Blue & Silver Fundraising Dinner at CSU San Marcos, an event which raises money to support building a pathway for social mobility and student success. The North County LGBTQ Resource Center hosted its 16th annual Pride by the Beach event. On the governance front, we had two productive Council Meetings this month. However, please note there will be no Council Meetings scheduled for July. I had the opportunity to engage with various community groups and address the diverse range of issues we face in our city. The Oceanside Chamber of Commerce held a reception to celebrate the graduation of the first cohort of the Oceanside Leadership Academy, it was a testament to the remarkable leadership potential within our community.

Moreover, we commemorated Juneteenth, an annual event that recognizes the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States. I had a meeting with State Senator Catherine Blakespear, who represents Oceanside in the California State Legislature. We discussed crucial issues pertaining to the state government and their impact on our city. It was an opportunity to advocate for our community's needs and interests. Lastly, I had the honor of participating in MainStreet Oceanside's Independence Parade with my wife Cheryl. The event showcased our collective patriotism and I was grateful for the chance to join in the festivities.

As we move forward into July, I want to express my gratitude for your continued support and engagement. Together, we can make a difference in District 2. If you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions, please don't hesitate to reach out.

Sincerely,

Councilmember Rick Robinson
