Dear District 2 Neighbors,
August was a very busy month here at the city after being dark in July. It started off with an incredible National Night Out hosted by the Oceanside Police Department. I had a blast walking around meeting folks, observing the various demonstrations, and enjoying all the fun the event had to offer. Congratulations to OPD on a very successful night of community engagement.
I had the opportunity to address Coastline Baptist Church and celebrate their 25th anniversary which coincided with the unveiling of their newly renovated facilities. Thank you Coastline Baptist for the warm welcome, I sincerely appreciated the chance to speak with your congregation.
Also in August, City Council meetings resumed. We had two great Council Meetings where we voted on some important items, including a new Marine Debris Reduction Ordinance which had tremendous support from the community. In addition to these Council Meetings, we had two public workshops focused on tackling critical issues facing our city. The first of these workshops was part one of Oceanside's Coastal Resilience Design Competition. Three design teams provided presentations on their concepts to help retain sand along our coast. These teams would love to hear your feedback on their ideas! Additionally, we held a public workshop where we received a presentation of current and proposed affordable housing production policies with the aim of exploring new ways to generate more affordable housing here in Oceanside. Thank you to those who attended these workshops and shared what they had to say on these issues.
Furthermore, I participated in the 1st Annual MSgt. Tala Paulo Charity Golf Tournament at the Marine Memorial Golf Course on Camp Pendleton. The funds raised at this event support the San Luis Rey Parish and the Semper Fi Fund. The Oceanside Police Department held a ceremony to recognize newly sworn in officers, recently retired officers, and officers who recently received promotions. Mission San Luis Rey hosted a night of celebration under the stars with their Heritage Ball, celebrating 225 years! Lastly, Brigadier General Jason Woodworth kindly welcomed city officials to a dinner at his on-base residence.
As we move forward into September, I want to express my gratitude for your continued support and engagement. Together, we can make a difference in District 2. If you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions, please don't hesitate to reach out.
Sincerely,
Councilmember Rick Robinson
