On Sunday, I announced during morning services that a protest march for reform of our gun laws would occur in downtown Seattle this Saturday, organized by the Washington Alliance for Gun Responsibility (WAGR). I have been in regular contact with WAGR Executive Director Renee Hopkins all week, and late Wednesday she informed us that the March in Seattle this Saturday has been cancelled. (We are not privy to the reasons why.)
The are many other demonstrations planned for Saturday, including events in Redmond and Olympia, to which anyone is welcome to participate. (Sign up here.) However, as a cathedral community will regroup for the next event, which may occur later this month in conjunction with the Supreme Court’s ruling on gun control. We will share more as things develop. Please continue to pray for all who are victims of gun violence, and for our nation.
Peace,
The Very Reverend Steven L. Thomason
Dean and Rector
Saint Mark’s Cathedral acknowledges that we gather on the traditional land of the first people of Seattle, the Duwamish People, who are still here, and we honor with gratitude the land itself and the life of the Duwamish Tribe. [Learn more]
