An Update from Fr. John about Ann
A message from Fr. John Spicer, Rector
| |
Dear Parish Family,
I need to share hard news: My wife, Ann, is on life support. Very early in the morning Feb. 7, she began having trouble breathing and maintaining blood pressure. After treatment in the ICU at St. Luke’s South, she was transported to the ICU at St. Luke’s-Plaza. There, she underwent an IV procedure to stop internal bleeding. She stabilized but a few hours but later lost consciousness and coded. After 20 minutes of CPR, she was unresponsive, with breathing supported by a ventilator.
We made the decision to contact the organ-donation team and waited. As the care team was tending to Ann, someone spoke to her and noticed responsive movement. She began responding to commands to wiggle toes and squeeze hands, so we continued the respirator and life-support meds. But the care team has determined that some internal bleeding continues. In addition, her kidneys have shut down. She remains on the ventilator and on dialysis as we watch for any stabilization.
Kathryn and Dan, with their spouses, are coming Saturday. The doctors’ best advice now is to watch perhaps 24 hours to see how her condition changes. We may have hard decisions to make soon.
I remain grateful for your prayers and for the team taking care of our pets. I know some kindhearted folks will think about providing food. I truly appreciate that; but, for now, let’s wait. I’ll look forward to that later.
Gratefully,
John+

Journey Through Luke With the Good Book Club
Through April 23, the Good Book Club will take up the Gospel of Luke. Most scholars say Luke was written after the Roman destruction of Jerusalem in 70, perhaps around 80, using the Gospel of Mark as its main source. Following this hypothesis, Luke (like Matthew) edits Mark and adds new material—for example, the Christmas story from Mary’s perspective. Luke emphasizes Jesus’ compassion for the marginalized and downtrodden, portraying him as a friend to sinners and poor people. Luke also highlights the role of women in the disciple community and uses female characters in the narrative more often than Mark or Matthew. The Gospel of Luke includes numerous parables, including favorites not found elsewhere, such as the Good Samaritan and the Prodigal Son. Themes of forgiveness, repentance, and salvation are prominent in this Gospel. Overall, Luke presents a comprehensive and compassionate portrait of Jesus, highlighting his ministry and mission to bring salvation to all. You can get the readings in daily texts or emails—just contact Fr. John to sign up.

Sunday Mornings at St. Andrew’s for Kids
Sunday school takes place during the 10:15 service and join their families in to have communion together.
Look for the colorful doors in the children’s ministry wing to find your child’s classroom. Veronica and our youth members will greet families and help guide you to your child’s classroom.
-
Nursery (8 wks – 3yrs): Orange doors.
-
PreK – 1st grade: Green doors.
-
2nd – 4th grade: Red doors.
Sunday School: We’re jumping right into the stories from the New Testament this February. The goal of this Epiphany season is to remind the kids why they come to church and why they serve. Reminding them each week that the Lord is great and God is good. He will always be there when we need him most as long as we PRAY:
P- praise the lord
R- respect others and ourselves
A- ask the lord your questions
Y- yourself, hold yourself accountable
Serve Sunday School: Are you ready to dive deeper into the community of St. Andrew’s? If you enjoy kids, enjoy playing, and enjoy telling stories... Then helping in the classroom is just for you. Sign up here to serve in either of the Sunday school classes. Signing up 2 times per quarter would be tremendously helpful.
Faith at Home:
We’re excited to continue offering weekly parent pages, available next to the Sunday school sign-in sheets. These resources will keep families informed about what their children are learning and provide opportunities for faith conversations at home.

Youth Leader Spotlights-Emma Murray
- Favorite Bible verse- 2 Corinthians 9-10
- Emma loves how close she has gotten to her peers in the youth ministry program, and she loves how she can always count on them.
- Favorite Food: Minsky’s Barbecue Chicken Pizza
Emma Murray is the kind of young woman who embodies determination, hard work, and heart. No matter how busy her schedule gets, she always makes time for others, showing up with kindness and an unwavering spirit. She is genuine to her core, radiating warmth and positivity, and it’s easy to see where she gets it from—her family shares the same dedication to serving others, always going the extra mile for the church and welcoming everyone with open arms.
Emma is an incredibly talented athlete, excelling in cross country, basketball, soccer, and the athletic committee, all while maintaining outstanding academic success at St. Teresa’s Academy. Yet, despite her demanding schedule, she never allows her faith to take a backseat. When asked about her favorite Bible verse, she shared 2 Corinthians 12:9-10, valuing its reminder that it’s okay to be weak because true strength comes from seeking God. This verse perfectly reflects who Emma is—humble, strong, and deeply faithful.
She is loved and admired by her peers, family, and friends, and I am incredibly grateful to have her on our team. Emma, you are helpful, hilarious, and full of grace. You bring so much light and love wherever you go, and I could not be more excited to highlight you this month. Congratulations! – Veronica
