In June, we released a public statement in response to the Black lives matter movement where we shared our firm stance against violence and systemic racism.
We also committed, as a staff and board, to reflecting on our own thoughts, behaviors, and actions as well as how we, as an organization, can cultivate a more inclusive and equitable future for our community.
I am writing to you today to let you know that we continue to work together toward our goals of creating an environment of discussion, learning, and action that will help us shape our community for the better.
We are currently in training with Dialogue on Race and share opportunities regularly with our team about other trainings they can attend centered on cultural competency, anti-racism, and anti-bias.
Participating in these trainings is aimed at increasing our awareness about issues, cultivating important discussions, and gathering best practices we can implement.
In addition, we have spearheaded a new Cultural Competency Initiative. We are looking forward to building out this work into an annual plan/policy that will allow us to engage with our mission through a cultural competency lens on a regular basis in all aspects of our work, from our vendor selection to our program curriculum.
We know that there is still so much more work to do, and we want you to know that we are here, ready and willing, to continue pursuing it for the betterment of our community and for our students' futures.
As we move forward with our cultural competency work, please feel free to reach out anytime with suggestions or feedback you may have. We value your thoughts, and hope to hear from you soon.
Thank you for continuing to support Kids' Orchestra and our mission.
