As we look forward to 2021 (and who isn’t looking forward to 2021?), CHPA continues to be here for you, your company and your employees. The CHPA board recently met for a virtual strategic planning session to evaluate the organization’s strategic priorities for the next 1-3 years. Not surprisingly, much of our planning focuses on the industry’s recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic and ensuring CHPA is well-positioned to continue serving our members and industry post-pandemic.
While the longer-term portions of the plan continue to be tweaked and will be communicated as they’re finalized, here’s where we stand now and where we’re heading in 2021.
Looking Back at 2020
Despite the challenges of this year across our industry, CHPA will end the year in a better financial position than previously projected, thanks in large part to the strong fiscal stewardship of the CHPA board over the past several years. Member support and CHPA’s reserves allowed us to focus beyond finances to a more holistic view of what members needed from the association. And we will continue to do so to support your companies.
- We were able to extend membership benefits for an additional six months, keeping members connected when their businesses slowed or stopped. As a result, we are happy to report we are doing better than anticipated with member retention.
- Like any small business, we’ve reduced expenses while focusing our resources on the programs and services most important to you.
Looking Ahead in 2021
As we look to 2021, we thank the dozens of strategic decision makers from member companies who provided input into our future focus. Two key areas emerged for 2021: membership growth and programming excellence.
Our goal is to bridge the connection gap we are all experiencing. While we share your disappointment that we won’t be together for our in-person Annual Conference, I invite you to engage with us as we build experiences to connect and inform. We are committed to providing ongoing membership value through new programming, networking and mentoring opportunities. These aren’t just more hours of Zoom calls -- look for new digital events with a connection component for a more interactive experience. These will be both online and in-person as local restrictions allow. You will also see new annual sponsorship options to help you meet your visibility goals.
Our world has changed and we will continue to evolve with it. Luckily, with a vaccine on the horizon, we can look forward to the next phase of getting back to our ‘preferred normal’ sooner rather than later. We continue to adjust expenses and explore non-dues revenue opportunities to keep CHPA moving forward.
