The Essential Worker Housing Access Act creates county-wide housing opportunities for essential workers like nurses, firefighters, teachers, police officers, construction workers, and service employees by requiring developers of new residential subdivisions to offer a percentage of units at an affordable price.

Anne Arundel County 2023 DisAbility Awareness Day Honoree Announced and to be Honored at October 28th Event

County Executive Steuart Pittman and the Anne Arundel County Commission on Disability Issues recently announced the name of the 2023 DisAbility Awareness Day Honoree. This annual award is presented to an individual in the community who has made a lifetime commitment to improving the lives of individuals with disabilities. The Honoree will be recognized at the annual DisAbility Awareness Day event on Saturday, October 28, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Westfield Annapolis Mall.


The 2023 honoree is Sunny Cefaratti, co-founder of the non-profit organization The Musical Autist. The Musical Autist is a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide access and platforms for self-advocacy for musicians of all ages and abilities on the autism spectrum. She is an Autistic Self-Advocate and mentor to others on the autism spectrum. As a troupe leader at the Musical Autist, Sunny mentors others on the spectrum and works with them to create sensory-friendly concerts for people of all abilities. Sunny is also an active member of the Maryland Developmental Disabilities Council. She is a performing pianist and vocalist who plays at local nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and community events. Sunny was born in South Korea, completely blind, and was adopted by her family in the US at 2 years of age and has been a resident of Annapolis, Maryland since 1988. She was diagnosed with autism in 2001. She is a graduate of Maryland School for the Blind. Sunny has performed at the Disability Awareness Event for over 11 years.

Serve on a Board or Commission

The County Executive's Office is seeking individuals to serve on a variety of county boards and commissions. The volunteer work done by these boards and commissions is an essential part of our efforts to make Anne Arundel County The Best Place - For All.

Administrative Charging Committee


1 vacancy. Requirement: County Resident and be available to provide a few to several hours a week to review individual case files online.

The Anne Arundel County Administrative Charging Committee (ACC) makes disciplinary determinations related to citizen-involved complaints against officers employed with the county’s five local law enforcement agencies. The ACC’s determination process begins when a law enforcement agency transfers an investigative file on a complaint to the committee members.

Anne Arundel County Public Libraries Board of Library Trustees 


1 vacancy. Requirement: Must reside in District 6. 

The Board of Library Trustees is the governing body of the Anne Arundel County Public Library (AACPL). It is comprised of volunteers representing all areas of our county. Trustees come to their volunteer roles with a range of experiences and backgrounds, and a strong desire to ensure the long-term vitality of our public libraries. 

Agricultural Preservation Advisory Board


2 vacancies. Requirement: Shall be an owner–operator of a commercial farm who earns 50 percent or more of their income from farming.

The Agricultural Preservation Advisory Board advises the County Executive and the County Council on the establishment of agricultural districts and the purchase of easements.

“Plan Your Park” Campaign


Recreation and Parks is excited to announce the launch of its Plan Your Park Campaign. This initiative will evaluate ten County-owned park sites for potential development of park and recreational uses, facilities, and amenities. Anne Arundel County residents are encouraged to explore the proposed park concepts and share feedback on preferred amenities for each location. Park concepts can be viewed by visiting www.aarecparks.org/PlanYourPark. The survey will remain open until November 30.

USDA Community Food Projects | Application Deadline: October 30, 2023


Community Food Projects is a competitive grants program that is administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture. Grants are intended to help eligible nonprofits, tribal organizations, and food program service providers in need of a one-time infusion of federal assistance for projects that promote self-sufficiency and food security in low-income communities; $4,800,000 is available.

United Way of Central Maryland 2024 Neighborhood Grant | Application Deadline: October 30, 2023, at 5:00 p.m. EST.  


The 2024 Neighborhood Grant is an opportunity for organizations with total annual operating budgets of $500,000 or less to receive $2,500 to $10,000 in funding to carry out resident-driven community-centered projects, connect community members and create impact in Central Maryland. Eligible organizations can apply to implement projects that:

  • Empower Local Leaders
  • Build Vibrant Neighborhoods

Arts Council of Anne Arundel County 2024 Spring Mini Grant | Application Deadline: October 31, 2023 (11:59 PM)


Mini Grants support innovative, well-defined arts-related projects that reach a new or broader audience, preferably within underserved communities. Funding of up to $2,500 is available to eligible organizations and programs on a dollar-to-dollar matching basis.

CFAAC Help Our Neighbors Grant | Application Deadline: November 6, 2023 


CFAAC's Help Our Neighbors Fund assists local nonprofits that assist individuals with living expenses like paying rent to prevent eviction, utilities to prevent shut-off, fees for transportation to work or car repair, or for essential medication and medical care to return to or maintain health.
