Dear Community Leaders and Members of Anne Arundel County,
As the federal government shutdown continues, many of our residents are feeling the impact, whether as federal employees, contractors, small business owners, or families who rely on federal programs. We recognize this is a challenging time, and we are committed to providing access to the available resources and support in our community.
If you or someone you know receives SNAP benefits, please note that benefits will likely not be deposited on EBT cards beginning November 1, 2025, if the shutdown does not end and the Trump Administration does not utilize existing contingency funding. To find local food pantries and meal programs, visit HealthyAnneArundel.FindHelp.com or the Anne Arundel County Food Bank’s resource page.
Beyond food assistance, our office has compiled resources for healthcare, housing, utilities, and employment on aacounty.org/federal-impacts. There you will also find information about the State of Maryland’s support programs for impacted workers, including no-interest loans, unemployment assistance, and job placement services. We are continuing to update this page as new resources become available.

Ameresco Collaborates with The Resilience Authority of Annapolis and Anne Arundel County to Advance Fleet Electrification
Anne Arundel County announced the execution of a design-build contract with The Resilience Authority of Annapolis and Anne Arundel County and Ameresco, Inc. (NYSE: AMRC), a leading energy solutions provider dedicated to helping customers navigate the energy transition, to deploy electric-vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure across 10 County-owned facilities.

From the Office of the People's Counsel: For Furloughed Government Employees Impacted by the Current Government Shutdown
Because the current federal shutdown has lasted longer than 7 consecutive days, protections for certain residential utility customers are now in effect.
If you're a government employee in Maryland who has been furloughed without pay because of the government shutdown, you may qualify for protection from having your gas and electric service shut off. This applies whether or not you're still required to report to work during the shutdown.
Gas and electric utility companies cannot disconnect your service for nonpayment during the shutdown or for 7 days after it ends as long as you contact the company before the shutoff date to:
- Verify that you’re a government employee affected by the shutdown, and
- Set up a plan to pay your overdue balance once the shutdown is over.
Call your utility directly to talk about your options and how you can verify that you are a government employee who has been affected.
Governor Moore has launched a dedicated resource page to support furloughed workers. It includes essential information on Unemployment Insurance, housing assistance, and services tailored for veterans.

ArundelStat released its Fall 2025 Bi-Annual Report. This edition highlights projects and initiatives from the last six months. It also includes Fiscal Year (FY) 2025 closeout performance data for departments that report data on the FY cycle, as well as Calendar Year (CY) 2024 closeout performance data for those on the CY cycle.

Weekly Letter: Parading, I-97, Community Schools, and Housing

Busy is good, right? By that standard it’s been a good week.
Saturday was lots of walking, with my staff in the Annapolis Pride Parade, and at the Crofton No Kings march.
I’ve written before about Pride parades, how they are such a raw and colorful celebration of just being who we are and accepting who our neighbors are. This year I found myself thanking the organizers for making it happen in the face of the same kind of sponsorship decline that Juneteenth saw this year. It seems that while the people still come out, the corporate world is less present. The division movement has pushed back against the inclusion movement, but ultimately, I’m convinced that they’ll discover that inclusion is better for business.

If you have a problem with a utility company (like electric, private water, or gas), you can file a complaint with the Public Service Commission (PSC) and their Consumer Affairs Division (PSC/CAD). The PSC regulates utility companies, and the CAD investigates people's complaints.
