Dear Community Leaders and Members of Anne Arundel County,

Good afternoon. I hope that each of you enjoyed the holiday weekend and were able to find a way to celebrate freedom in honor of Juneteenth. County Executive Pittman and his team had a great time participating in many of the Juneteenth Activities. We want to thank Phyllis Tee Adams and the rest of The Annapolis Juneteenth committee for helping our whole community realize the importance of the occasion and for bringing us all together over the weekend in such a joyous way.

Yesterday, County Executive Pittman announced which non-profit organizations received grant funding in FY23 as part of the County Executive’s Community Support Grant program. Seventy-four organizations received funding, each of which does excellent work in the community. Partnering with community-based non-profits to serve the local community is essential work, as these organizations are often uniquely positioned to help those that need it the most.

Lastly, if you live in Region 9, remember that County Executive Pittman will be in Galesville tomorrow evening hosting the first in a series of Making the Best Place Community Summits. We hope you join us tomorrow at 6 pm at Galesville Memorial Hall to ask questions about the future of Education, the Environment, and Public Safety in your part of the county.

Sincerely,

James Kitchin
Office of the County Executive
Director, CECS

County Executive Pittman, Arundel Community Development Services Announce Community Support Grant Awards
Anne Arundel County Executive Steuart Pittman announced $2.12 million in funding for 74 community-based organizations through the County’s Community Support Grant (CSG) awards program managed by Arundel Community Development Services (ACDS). Since County Executive Pittman reintroduced the program as part of the County’s FY21 budget, 154 awards totaling $4.5 million have been made to 92 unique nonprofits providing vital services to the residents of Anne Arundel County.

“The organizations that get these grants provide critical support for our residents - from food and baby pantries to afterschool programs to energy assistance and mental health services,” County Executive Steuart Pittman said. “Growing the capacity of community-based nonprofits to deliver services to our residents is one of the most important legacies of our administration.”

Department of Health Begins Distributing and Administering COVID-19 Vaccines for Children Under 5 Years
The Anne Arundel County Department of Health now offers COVID-19 vaccines to children under 5 years. An independent panel of advisers to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention voted to recommend vaccinating all children in the age group with one of two separate COVID-19 vaccines manufactured by Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech.

The Anne Arundel County Department of Health is providing vaccines to pediatricians’ offices so that they can vaccinate the children they care for. “Young children and their parents are used to getting vaccines at their pediatrician’s office. That’s why we’ve partnered with them to make it easier for parents and children. For offices that need more help, we’ll provide staff to support COVID-19 vaccinations in their office and in partnership with those pediatricians,” said Dr. Tonii Gedin, Deputy Health Officer of Public Health at the Anne Arundel County Department of Health.
