Dear Community Leaders and Members of Anne Arundel County,

On September 25th at noon, we're introducing the new Community Wellbeing Index, a tool that goes beyond charts and numbers to show how health, safety, access, and opportunity vary across every neighborhood in Anne Arundel County. This isn’t just for data experts; it’s for residents, nonprofits, and community leaders who want to use real information to drive change, target resources, or better understand the places we live and serve. If you’re working to make your community stronger, this tool can help. Click here to join us.

We are also inviting you to join County Executive Pittman during his new “Office Hours,” where he will be answering resident-submitted questions in upcoming podcast episodes. Whether your question is about road safety, development, the budget, parks, or how to get involved in county decisions, this is your moment to ask. Just reply to this email, send a message to pittmanandfriends@aacounty.org, or call 410-222-1800 and leave a short voicemail with your name, community, and question. We may use your question on the show!

County Executive Pittman, Friends of Crownsville Hospital Patient Cemetery Unveil ‘Say My Name’ Memorial

County Executive Steuart Pittman, alongside the Friends of Crownsville Hospital Patient Cemetery, First Lady Dawn Moore, elected officials, and community leaders, unveiled the "Say My Name" Memorial at Crownsville Hospital Memorial Park.

This memorial will serve as a permanent tribute to the more than 1,700 patients from 26 states and 4 countries who lived and died at the former Crownsville State Hospital. Many of these individuals who were laid to rest between 1912 - 1965 were buried in unmarked graves, listed only as numbers without any personal recognition or ceremony. After years of research led by Janice Hayes-Williams and conducted by the Friends of Crownsville Patient Cemetery, the names of all these individuals have all been recovered and are listed on the memorial.

Weekly Letter: Success is Well-Being

Published: September 12, 2025

Our most recent gathering of the leaders of county departments, our Cabinet, was last Wednesday at the new Nonprofit Center at Crownsville Hospital Memorial Park. We don’t do them like President Trump, where each member tells the boss how wonderful he is, but I was tempted to do exactly that to each of them. They are so thoroughly committed to the welfare of our residents that I just can’t help but idolize them.

I was asked in a recent interview what I wish all residents knew. I said that I wish they knew that public servants throughout our government actually measure the success of their work by the health and well-being of the people they serve. Period. It’s true.
