Dear Community Leaders and Members of Anne Arundel County,

Happy Thursday. I hope you are doing well and are looking forward to the long weekend.

This past Tuesday, County Executive Pittman joined Mayor Gavin Buckley and others to lay a wreath at the Guardians of the First Amendment Memorial to honor Gerald Fischman, Rob Hiaasen, John McNamara, Rebecca Smith, and Wendi Winters. We thank each of you who could join us there or found a different way to honor these community heroes on the fourth anniversary of the mass shooting of the Capital Gazette.

Also, on this difficult anniversary, County Executive Pittman and Dr. Kalyanaraman released a strategic plan to reduce gun violence led by the county’s Gun Violence Intervention Team (GVIT). Using a structured public health approach, the plan identifies data-driven and evidence-based strategies that engage community members, law enforcement, mental and behavioral health agencies, and gun violence intervention organizations in collaborative advocacy, prevention, and response initiatives.

Lastly, if you live in Region 8 (Davidsonville, Waysons Corner, Harwood, Lothian, Owensville, Friendship, Owings, and parts of Edgewater), we invite you to come out next week to the second of County Executive Pittman’s Making the Best Place for All Community Summits. We will be at Southern Middle School on Thursday, July 7th starting at 6 pm. We hope to see you there!

Sincerely,

James Kitchin
Office of the County Executive
Director, CECS

Anne Arundel County Selects The Michaels Organization for 7409 Baltimore-Annapolis Boulevard Redevelopment
Anne Arundel County announced the selection of The Michaels Organization, a national leader in residential real estate development, to redevelop 13 acres of County-owned underutilized industrial property located at 7409 Baltimore-Annapolis Boulevard in Glen Burnie. The project will include a mixture of apartments, lofts, and townhomes, as well as commercial space.

“This project is exactly what we meant when we promised to manage our county’s growth. It will improve water quality in an adjacent stream, and provide a mix of housing and commercial opportunities near a train station, a bike path, and a town center,” County Executive Steuart Pittman said. “We congratulate The Michaels Organization for a proposal that will improve the quality of people’s lives. We look forward to getting started.”
