Anne Arundel County Joins National Cohort to Achieve Certified Welcoming Designation; Reaffirms Commitment to Equity and Inclusion 

Anne Arundel County announced its participation in a national cohort of communities working to achieve the Certified Welcoming designation from Welcoming America. This announcement was made during a press conference today, where County Executive Steuart Pittman, along with key county leaders and nonprofit partners, reaffirmed the county’s commitment to fostering an inclusive environment for all residents. The Certified Welcoming designation will position Anne Arundel as a leader in immigrant inclusion, joining more than two dozen communities across the U.S. and becoming only the third local government in Maryland to achieve this distinction.

County Executive Pittman Issues Statement on Chesapeake Terrace Landfill Permit Denial

County Executive Steuart Pittman issued the following statement regarding the Maryland Department of the Environment's denial of Halle Companies refuse disposal permit.

“The Maryland Department of the Environment’s decision to deny the Halle Companies’

Chesapeake Terrace Landfill application for a permit to create a landfill adjacent to the Two Rivers Community correctly recognizes that the proposed landfill is a risk to public health due to the proximity of the Two Rivers Elementary School and the intersection of the WB&A Trail.

"Much has changed in the immediate area surrounding the landfill since it was first proposed. Thousands of homes have been built adjacent to the proposed landfill as well as an elementary school to educate the children who live in those homes.

"I want to thank the community leaders who have been engaged with the landfill issues for so long through both Forks of the Patuxent Improvement Association and the Two Rivers Residents Landfill Opposition Committee.

"As a next step, I will be reaching out directly to the Halle Companies to begin discussions about preserving the land for nature and passive recreation, either in partnership with the county or a local land conservation organization."

ArundelStat Releases its Bi-Annual Report

The report provides an update on two initiatives spearheaded by ArundelStat: Department Performance and OpenData. In this report, departments that report their annual performance data on the Fiscal Year cycle are profiled and their end of year data is also publicly available on OpenPerformance. Warming Relief

As we approach the winter season, Anne Arundel County will open several county facilities as warming relief locations to support community members during anticipated prolonged cold weather. Community members who need temporary relief from the cold weather can stop in and utilize the designated facilities during their normal business hours. For more information, click here.

SHA Operation Clean Sweep - November 2024

The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will soon implement its next phase of Operation Clean Sweep, a statewide effort to remove litter on Maryland roads.

The State Highway Administration team will perform litter removal and mowing operations along highly traveled State-maintained roadways prior to the Thanksgiving holiday (Wednesday, November 20 – Wednesday, November 27, 2024).

Drivers are reminded to remain alert for maintenance crews and to reduce speeds when approaching these operations.

Customers can help by reporting litter on state roads by clicking here or they may also contact the SHA District 5 Office at 410-841-1000 or toll-free at 1-800-331-5603. 

Crownsville Hospital Memorial Park Draft Master Plan

The draft master plan document is available for download at aacounty.org/CrownsvillePark. A 45-day review period has been established from 10/10/24 to 11/24/24 for the public to submit comments to the project email address: crownsville-park-comments@aacounty.org.

Pedestrian Improvements in Brooklyn Park

Anne Arundel County Office of Transportation invites public input on proposed pedestrian improvements in Brooklyn Park. This project, funded by the Baltimore Metropolitan Council’s Transportation Land Connections grant program, will focus on implementing Priority Project #4 from the Brooklyn Park Mobility Study. Your feedback is crucial to shaping the design and ensuring these improvements address community needs.

Special Taxing Districts

A Special Taxing District is a geographic designation of a contiguous area of the County (usually a subdivision or community) established by legislation of the County Council to provide public benefits to properties that would not otherwise receive these benefits or have another legally enforceable method of financing the benefits.

Non Residential Tenant Improvement Permit

A Tenant Improvement Permit is a Building Permit that is required for a new tenant to occupy a space in an existing building, even if improvements are not made. This may include moving into the space "AS IS" (no changes); reconfiguring the layout of a space; updating the finishes and fixtures, and/or installing new equipment and technology. A Certificate of Occupancy will be issued and the space may be occupied once improvements are completed and when all final inspections have passed.
