An Update from the Director
Dear CDLC Members,

I hope that everyone is having a productive yet relaxing Summer! A few updates to share:

Join me in welcoming the Albany County Historical Association at Ten Broeck Mansion as a CDLC member! We are learning about their collection and working with them to add their images to NYHeritage. If you have never been there, stop down to enjoy their beautiful gardens!

The CDLC Member Showcase, on Thursday, October 19th at Guilderland Public Library, will highlight member projects and provides an opportunity to catch up with your colleagues. Mark your calendar for this afternoon event and watch for information.

At the suggestion of members, we are compiling  a list of training opportunities beyond CDLC . Let us know if you have recommended additions.

Regional Collections

Our New York Heritage participants are busy! We heard about the great digital projects taking place at Maria College and Saratoga Springs Public Library at the recent NYHeritage meeting and many members have added new material or new collections, including Guilderland Public Library and Union College . Contact us to participate in NYHeritage or to get started again.

Members are also contributing to the NYS Historic Newspapers project. Newspapers have recently been added by the Greenwich Free Library, RCS Community Library, Rensselaer County Historical Association, Schenectady County Historical Society, Schenectady County Public Library and Union College. Much of this work was supported by grants awarded from CDLC. This project provides free online access to a wide range of newspapers chosen to reflect New York's unique history and is administered by Northern New York Library Network.

Local Connections

We are excited to announce new and returning Special Interest Groups as forums for members to discuss common interests. A very special thank you to all interest group facilitators for suggesting these groups and volunteering their time! Groups are Library Assistants; Cataloging and Technical Services; Preservation; Reference, Instruction, and Outreach; and Scholarly Communication

CDLC is reestablishing its Coordinated Collection Development (CCD) Committee which is charged to develop, implement and evaluate plans and other activities for CCD, and for recommending collection development plans and programs. As we continue our efforts to highlight your collections, this is an ideal time to become involved. C ontact me if you are interested or with any questions.

Here's a unique opportunity to visit a CDLC member (two, actually)! The Dudley Observatory, housed at miSci, is presenting The Great American Solar Eclipse Viewing Party on Monday August 21st from 1:22 pm - 3:56 pm. Your paid admission gives you access to the museum galleries as well as any eclipse activities. Experience this rare event at miSci with the Dudley Observatory's Dr. Valerie Rapson.
Finally, we're so glad that many of you could benefit from our latest round of giveaways! We are continuing to enhance our space by creating a Member Wall and have received wonderful contributions-logos, pennants, signs, and more! Please consider sending something along that reflects your institution (if you have not already). Thank you!
Your comments and questions are always welcome.

Kind Regards,
