An Update from the Director
Dear CDLC Members and Supporters,

Our Fall is off to a busy start, and we are also beginning to plan for some Spring events: Save the date for the CDLC Annual Meeting, a lunch meeting taking place Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at the Shaker Ridge Country Club.
We'll also be planning the Resource Sharing Symposium for the Spring, sponsored by the Committee on Resource Sharing (CORS). Stay tuned!
Turning back to the Fall, here's a final reminder that you can still register for the Member Showcase this week, on the afternoon of Thursday, October 19 at Guilderland Public Library. Thanks to Guilderland for hosting us, and to our speakers from The Darrow School, Ellis Hospital, Guilderland Public Library, Irish American Heritage Museum, Maria College and Schenectady County Historical Society. If you can, join us to hear from your fellow members, take a tour of the library, and mingle with your colleagues!
Regional Collections
Our Collection Development Committee met and one outcome is making sure members are informed of tools and resources that might aid in managing their collections. One such tool is Empire Shared Collection, a repository operated by the University at Buffalo Libraries which provides continuing access to a shared collection of seldom-used serial-type materials. CDLC is hosting a webinar on Tuesday, November 28 at 10 a.m. with representatives from ESC who will share information and address questions. View the webinar from your library or join us at CDLC. Register here!
Next week is Open Access Week and the University at Albany is hosting Open Access Day on Thursday, October 26.  Read more and register here.

Local Connections
All CDLC interest groups had at least one meeting and are beginning to populate their LibGuides with meeting notes and useful resources. The groups also have set dates for future meetings. Visit our web site to register for any meetings. Thanks again to all of our interest group facilitators!
Speaking of interest groups, CALA-the Capital Area Library Assistants-is seeking nominees for its Outstanding Service Award. The deadline is November 1. Read more and consider nominating one of your library assistants!
I was fortunate to attend a Post-Digital Library Symposium at RPI last month and learned about exciting projects taking place at RPI and in partnership with other CDLC members, such as the Rensselaer County Historical Society. It was good to see several CDLC members in attendance, and there was a lot of enthusiasm about the potential for our libraries to work with augmented reality, linked data and gaming. To keep the conversation going, we are having a follow-up discussion on Monday, December 4 at Union College (time TBD). Thank you to Robyn Reed at Union for hosting us and to Andrew White at RPI for facilitating. Plan to join us whether or not you attended the initial symposium to learn more and share your thoughts. More info. coming soon.

ANOTHER EVENT!: Join us for an OCLC Update on Thursday November 2 from 9:30 am-noon at CDLC.
FINALLY: Next week the CDLC Board is meeting to identify opportunities and direction using the feedback we received from a member survey, committee-identified priorities, staff and board comments, and our Plan of Service. I will report back and am always interested in your comments on how we can best be meeting members' needs. Feel free to drop me a note at any time or give me a call-

Your comments and questions are always welcome.

Kind Regards,
