Wow! What a busy few weeks we’ve had around Morrissey Boulevard.  From events with Mayor Marty Walsh, to graduating the remarkable Class of 2018, to welcoming back the grandparents of our Arrupe students – it has been non-stop around here!  

I love the energy and excitement that comes as classes wind down and students and faculty plan for summer. I continue to feel blessed to be part of such a wonderful community.

BC High in the City
BC High has been blessed by the generosity of alumni, parents, friends and benefactors that have invited us to attend some of the most exciting and influential events in and around the City. My colleagues, Dan Carmody, our new VP for Global Mission and Identity and Executive Director of the Hyde Center and Colleen Carter, VP for External Relations, and I kicked off the month at the Boston Chamber of Commerce annual meeting with 1500 City, civic and corporate leaders. Colleen and I were also the the guest of Mary and Bob Scannell ’79 P’15 at the Boys & Girls Club of Dorchester event where I was humbled by Bob's heartfelt welcome as the new President of BC High.

The Profiles in Courage Award is an incredible tribute to President Kennedy's legacy and Tom Hynes ’57 graciously invited BC High this year. A heartfelt thank you to those who have reached out to include BC High as a civic and strategic thought partner in the community and the globe! 
2018 Graduation & Class of '68 Golden Jubilarians
On Sunday, May 20, we celebrated the 154 th Commencement Exercises of BC High alongside the Class of 1968 celebrating their Golden Jubilee. I was incredibly humbled to bear witness to the academic and athletic prowess of the Class of 2018. We share a special year that I hope these young men will remember forever.

In his commencement remarks, Mike White ’70, former Chairman, President & CEO of DIRECTV, shared three key lessons that I hope the students will remember forever:

1. View the world broadly.
2. Never stop learning, and
3. Continue to be a “man for others.”

Celebrating our Retirees!
As tradition would have it, we honor each of our retiring faculty and staff members with a special ceremony in front of the entire school. The "clap out" is remarkable and shows how our community comes together to honor our most valued members as they embark on the next phases in their lives.

This year, we said good bye to Katie Griswol d from the Guidance Office who had been at BC High for 15 years. She was such an important fixture in the Guidance Office and her loving, warm personality will be missed.

And John Normant '64 -- 50!! years as a track coach, 36 years in the classroom. A man for others by any standards. He represents the very best of what we hope our students will become. Kind, fair, and tough, John loves each and every one of his students and athletes. The BC High community has been forever changed because of this wonderful man!
