To Our District 67 School Community:
I want to provide an update on opportunities for expanded in-person offerings for this year.  
Over the last several weeks, COVID-19 infection rates have been significantly declining across both Lake Forest and Lake County. Additionally, Lake County expects the availability of vaccines to significantly increase over the coming weeks.
This is good news. It means that we can all expect students to be back to full-time, in-person learning when school starts in the fall.
These positive developments also create an opportunity for our District to expand in-person offerings for our students after Spring Break. At our Board meeting earlier this week, our Administrative team discussed varying approaches, including:

  • Full in-person: transitioning the current hybrid in-person model to a five-day-a-week fully in-person learning model
  • Supervised remote option: creating an option that would allow current hybrid in-person students to complete the remote portion of their day at a D67 site under District supervision

The Administrative team explained trade-offs and disruption involved with an expansion to full day in-person learning and recommended maintaining the current hybrid model while offering a supervised remote option to expand in-person learning. The entire meeting and report can be viewed here.
Given the desire for full in-person learning being expressed within the community, the Board requested that the Administrative team survey the community to assess interest in the alternatives and tolerance for potential trade-offs, in order to develop a detailed plan for consideration at our upcoming March 16 meeting. You will receive your survey before the end of this week. Your input is critical for our District staff to build the best plan for our students. 
Without a doubt, there have been some big challenges this year. We’ve navigated them best when we’ve come together as a community. I am confident that will be the case this time, as well.
