Jan. 6, 2021
Dear GLOBE Community,
The GLOBE Academy’s Reopening committee — which has been meeting weekly since September 22, 2020, for in-depth discussions around data and research — met Tuesday, Jan. 5th to review the current pandemic conditions. In light of the current data, the committee has decided that it is safest to continue with virtual instruction at this time. Our communication on Dec. 18, 2020, with a proposed January reopening, was based on the DeKalb County School District’s plan. Unfortunately, COVID-19 cases have soared in DeKalb County in recent weeks, and our medical experts are confident that we are not yet seeing the peak of holiday-associated COVID-19 cases. Our work has been and will continue to be rooted in science. We are watching for the metrics to trend downward and will continue to evaluate the situation weekly.
We understand that this is a very difficult and frustrating time for both families and staff, and that there are a number of important decisions that are dependent upon GLOBE’s reopening plans. Unfortunately, the pandemic conditions are incredibly fluid, which further complicates an already difficult situation.
Thank you to all of the parents who filled out the distance learning surveys immediately prior to our recent break. In light of the decision to remain virtual for the time being, teachers and administrators are hard at work updating GLOBE's distance learning plan for the second semester.
While we are closely following DeKalb County School District’s planning, GLOBE’s plans for a return-to-campus will be based on the recommendations of our independently run reopening committee to meet the needs of our community and academic dual-language immersion model. Please watch for communications to come directly from GLOBE about reopening and continued instructional plans.
In the meantime, please continue to take good care of yourselves and your communities by staying home when you can, wearing masks, washing your hands, and keeping a safe space between yourself and other people who are not from your household.
