Please help us welcome Laura Poulette to the indigenous family of artists. Laura's love and respect of nature shows in her detailed, colorful botanical illustrations. Her aesthetic found in fresh prints, cards, and banners fits in perfectly at indigenous.
~  ~  ~  Let art be part of your nature

"Hello! I'm Laura Poulette an artist and maker. I live in the Kentucky countryside with my family on a homestead we are building ourselves, and my life is very much affected by the seasons. Breaking the ice on the stock tanks, planting vegetable seedlings, swimming in the pond, cutting and storing firewood-these and many other seasonal tasks and rituals mark each changing year. As we work and live, I enjoy studying the ever changing moods and forms of the surrounding plants and trees. The perfectly formed, tightly closed buds of the winter trees, the ephemeral riot of spring wildflowers, the green jungle of the summer woods, and the ripening seeds of autumn. Drawing and painting is how I record these observations, and explore the amazing botanical diversity of this place."

Ariana _ Matthew Broereman
Please welcome new design duo, Ariana & Matthew Broerman to the indigenous family of artists! They add their talents to our dynamic collection with their numbered, limited edition block prints along with a series of giclee reproduction prints. This Loveland, Ohio creative married couple captures the beauty of nature in each print with wonderful, simple lines and bold colors.

"We create colorful, contemporary linocut prints inspired by folk art, nature, and the landscapes of t he Midwest. Linocut is a style of relief printmaking where artists carve away recesses in a linoleum block, roll ink onto the uncarved portions, and press paper onto the inked surface, transferring the image. This process occurs over and over, building up multiple layers of color and ink. It is part artistry, part craftsmanship. Each print is a labor of love. Every stroke we carve, color we choose, and print we make tells a story. We don't know until we've pulled the paper off the block how the pigments will look when layered, if the pressure we've applied is too much or too little, or if everything is aligned perfectly. Each print shows not only the story within the artwork, but also the story of making the artwork itself."

With springtime comes so many new makers at indigenous craft gallery! Please help us welcome Deb Chenault of Berea, Kentucky to the indigenous family of artists. Deb has added a sleek new collection of hand worked mixed-metals jewelry. Many of her pieces are titled and include a story card so we can share her inspiration with the buyer or wearer; designs include - The Seven Sisters, Wabi-Sabi, Seed, The Portal, Waning Moon, and more.

Story of The Seven Sisters (middle photo):
The sub ject of legend in nearly every culture, the "Seven Sisters" name is from Greek mythology, where seven beautiful sisters were ardently pursued by Orion until Zeus took pity on them, turning them into a flock of doves that flew to freedom and protection in the night sky. Though telescopic observation has revealed that this open cluster we now call the Pleiades is comprised of some four hundred stars wreathed in a complex nebulæ of dust and gas, in antiquity, only seven stars were visible to the naked eye. My hope is that this talisman celebrates with its wearer the wonder of the night sky, bringing her the protective power of Zeus, and the freedom of the dove. Deb Chenault

Fresh batch of pottery from J eannine Kenyon has arrived! Wonderful earthy pieces in black clay with bees buzzing about. 10% of every sale is donated to Save The Bees organization.

More about the potter:
"Hey there lovelies. I have never done a Meet The Maker before and I felt it was about time I introduce myself to you. My name is Jeannine Kenyon and I currently reside in Cincinnati, Ohio. I am originally from a little town in western Pennsylvania called Clarion. You might know about it because of Cooks Forest. I grew up running around in the woods barefoot and free. Because of this I feel a strong connection to the earth and all its beautiful creatures. That is why I aim to do what I can to protect it. For a long time I struggled with how to do so, I mean I'm just a simple potter, what can I do?! Well, I decided every year I would choose an endangered species and make my main line of work be based on that species and then donate 10% of my sales to an organization who is fighting to protect it. Last year was elephants and this year it's bees and I am donating to the Pollinator Partnership. While I am aiming to do more I am happy with this start. I hope to inspire others to enjoy and nurture the nature around them."   ~Jeannine

It's time for spring greens!  Actually, this is indigenous green, according to Jason Parsley, who created this bright, organic green just for our craft gallery. It reminds us of those first peeks at a little green sprout or that vibrant green of leaves high on a tree when the sun shines through them. Our selection of Parsley Pottery is recently stocked with a bevy of plates, bowls, mugs, goblets, vases, ikebana vessels and a variety of functional serving pieces.
