Francis Howell School District Superintendent Dr. Kenneth Roumpos will resign at the end of the 2024-25 school year to assume the Superintendent position at Kirkwood School District.

During closed session at last week’s Board of Education meeting, the Board voted unanimously to release Roumpos from his contract on June 30, 2025. Roumpos will continue to serve as Superintendent at Francis Howell through the end of the 2024-25 school year, and will work with the Board and Executive Cabinet to support the leadership transition next spring.

FHSD Board President Adam Bertrand, on behalf of the Board, expressed gratitude for Roumpos’ many contributions during his five-year tenure at Francis Howell. Roumpos joined the District in 2020 at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic and served for two years as deputy superintendent before being named Interim Superintendent in March 2022. His Superintendent contract began officially on July 1, 2023.

“Dr. Roumpos has made an overwhelmingly positive impact during his time at Francis Howell. His ability to bring people together, concentrate effort on key priorities, and champion excellence for all students has helped take our District to a new level, and will continue over the next six months as we search for our next leader.” - Adam Bertrand, FHSD Board President

Bertrand said the Board plans to move aggressively to hire the District’s next Superintendent. A search firm will be engaged to lead a nationwide search.

Roumpos said he is confident that the executive leadership, principals, teachers and staff will ensure continued success for the District following his departure.

“Francis Howell is an amazing district full of talented and dedicated individuals who give their all each and every day to serve our students and families. I am proud of all that we have accomplished together, and I have no doubt that this community will continue to thrive in the years to come.”

Roumpos relocated to St. Charles County with his family after more than two decades in Illinois.

“My family made a home here in Cottleville, and we have no plans to move,” he said. “We will remain a part of this community, and our children will continue to attend our top-rated Francis Howell schools. Come next July, I will no longer be your leader, but I will be an engaged parent, community member and supporter.”
