The Pause to Save Lives affects our Lutheran High Schools and Concordia University Ann Arbor directly. However, as noted above, elementary schools, day care centers, and
preschools are allowed to continue with appropriate safeguards that have been in place throughout the school year.
While the order continues to provide exemption from penalties for the “Faith Community” in regard to religious worship, congregations are encouraged to discuss their current in-person worship plans in light of the increased spread of COVID-19. Congregations are especially encouraged to reconsider other gatherings or events that have been scheduled through this holiday season that could be held virtually or postponed.
We encourage pastors and leaders in the Michigan District congregations and ministries to discuss the situation in your various localities and make decisions that best serve your members and the community in which you are placed as “salt and light.” Please exercise grace with individuals and other ministries who may differ in their perspective or opinion.
We are not to be afraid of the disease, but we do need to demonstrate continued care, love, and respect for all people in our communities.
May God bless you all with continued wisdom, love for our Lord, and love for His people.
Rev. Dr. David P. E. Maier
President
